Mobile Creches, (MC) a pioneer NGO, has been operational since 1969, providing childcare and health services to more than 15,000 children every year in the National Capital Region, through workplace and community-based crèches and daycare centres, every year.
MC pioneered the cause of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) and focuses on young children under six years in urban slums and children of migrant workers at construction sites. MC’s multi-pronged approach- providing childcare services to young children at worksites, urban slums, rural and tribal communities, working with parents and communities to amplify the ECD agenda, enhancing linkages with government ECD services, training the ECD workforce, influencing government policies, promoting research in the field of ECD; address both the short- and long-term needs of children. It is officially recognised as the National Creche agency by the government and is on the path of accelerating ECD services for the children of marginalized communities by scaling up in partnership with the government and other players in civil society.
In Jharkhand, Mobile Creches operates community-based crèche centres for children aged 7 months to 3 years in Murhu Block (Khunti District) and Bero Block (Ranchi District). Currently, 80 crèches are operational, with 40 centres in each block. The programme plans to expand to an additional 60 centres, with 30 new centres in each block. These centres provide supplementary nutrition, health care, growth monitoring, early stimulation, responsive caregiving, hygiene and sanitation, child protection, and linkages with government services to promote the holistic development of young children.

Coordinates with Cluster Coordinator, Crèche Supervisors, Training team; MIS Coordinator

Position Overview: - The Safety Coordinator will oversee and implement safety and security protocols in all creche centres within the assigned locations in Jharkhand. The role involves ensuring adherence to infrastructure safety standards, conducting capacity-building sessions for caregivers, and responding to emergency situations to safeguard children’s well-being. , The role covers everything from the initial structural modification of the buildings to ongoing community involvement and emergency protocols
QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY
• Education: Graduate in any discipline; preferably a background in civil engineering.
• Experience: 2-3 years of experience in the development sector, safety management, or a related technical field.
• Essential: willing to relocate in project block. Candidates must own a two-wheeler with a valid driving license, and be willing to travel extensively within the block, including remote and tribal hamlets.
• Age: 25–55 years.
• Language: Fluency in Hindi and working knowledge of English.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct safety and security orientations for staff and creche caregivers.
• Assess creche buildings during selection and recommend renovations to meet safety standards.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with safety protocols during renovations and daily operations.
• Build the capacity of creche caregivers, supervisors, and staff on safety and security measures.
• Conduct regular safety audits and assessments of all creche centers.
• Facilitate community involvement in quarterly safety audits of creches.
• Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans for medical, fire, disaster, and child abuse incidents.
• Attend to and resolve safety and security grievances in a timely manner.
• Organize and lead review meetings on creche safety and security.
• Act as the first responder to any emergency situation within the creche centers.
Emergency Response Mechanism:
• Medical Emergencies: Ensure early diagnosis, referrals to nearby PHCs, and coordination with healthcare workers.
• Fire Emergencies: Maintain fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and fire buckets; train caregivers on fire response protocols.
• Disaster Emergencies: Close creches during extreme weather, conduct structural safety assessments, and install lightning conductors where needed.
• Child Abuse: Implement preventive education, monitor controlled access, and adhere to government-mandated reporting protocols.
Key Skills Required:
• Basic computing skills (MS Word, email communication).
• Strong communication , Observation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams.
• Community mobilization skills.
• Strong reporting and documentation abilities.
• Fluency in the local tribal dialect is preferred.
