1. Background:
The Organization supports the Government of India in delivering essential, gender-responsive and high-impact nutrition interventions for young children, adolescents and pregnant women, especially those from vulnerable groups. This work is implemented through key national platforms such as the National Health Mission, POSHAN 2.0 and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission to promote healthy diets and optimal nutrition practices. Under its current Country Programme cycle, the Organization has identified five nutrition priorities, one of which is advancing adolescent nutrition with a focus on healthy diets and obesity prevention. Further, India is experiencing a growing burden of obesity and non-communicable diseases, driven by increased consumption of foods high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS). According to NFHS-5 and ICMR-NIN (2024), 56% of the country’s disease burden is linked to unhealthy dietary habits. Food marketing to children is a key factor influencing these trends, with strong evidence showing its role in shaping children’s food choices and consumption patterns.
In this context, under its initiative towards improving food environment, the Organization is seeking a full-time consultant with strong technical, coordination and knowledge management skills to advance efforts to restrict unhealthy food marketing to children and adolescents in India. The candidate should bring expertise in public health, food systems or nutrition, with demonstrated capacity to synthesize complex information, collaborate across sectors and advocate for child rights in the context of healthier food environments.
