1. Background:
UN ORGANISATION works with the Government of India and partners to strengthen the delivery of essential nutrition interventions, ensuring that children, adolescents and women, particularly the most vulnerable, have access to and benefit from equitable, gender-responsive, quality nutrition services and adopt healthy diets and nutrition care practices. UN ORGANISATION supports national flagship programmes, including the National Health Mission (NHM), POSHAN 2.0 and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), to advance nutrition outcomes through multisectoral convergence and community- and facility-based platforms.
Under the current Country Programme Document (CPD), UN ORGANISATION’s Nutrition Section focuses on five key priorities: (i) promoting adequate food, healthy food environments and appropriate feeding practices in early childhood, particularly complementary feeding; (ii) strengthening the early detection of growth faltering in young children and nutritional risks among pregnant women, with linkages to quality counselling and care; (iii) improving the care of low-birth-weight infants and infants under six months affected by wasting; (iv) strengthening adolescent nutrition, with a focus on healthy diets and anemia prevention; and (v) improving women’s nutrition during pregnancy, with emphasis on healthy diets, anemia prevention and access to quality nutrition services and care.
Recognizing the critical importance of women’s nutrition across the life course, UN ORGANISATION is strengthening its focus on nutrition before, between and beyond pregnancies, including preconception care and nutrition during pregnancy. Improving women’s nutritional status prior to conception and during pregnancy is essential to maternal health, healthy pregnancy outcomes and optimal child growth and development. This requires strengthening the integration of nutrition interventions across existing health systems and life-course platforms, supported by evidence-informed programming, multisectoral convergence and context-specific implementation strategies.
Against this backdrop, UN ORGANISATION’s Nutrition Section in the India Country Office, New Delhi, seeks to engage a consultant to provide technical and programme support for advancing women’s nutrition, with a particular focus on preconception nutrition and care and nutrition during pregnancy. The consultancy will support programme planning and implementation, evidence and data analysis, documentation of promising practices, facilitation of state-level reviews and stakeholder consultations, and coordination with government counterparts and partner institutions. The consultant will also support programme monitoring, results reporting and compliance with donor requirements, in line with the Nutrition Section’s overarching programme priorities and results framework.
