About the Program :
Bal Ashram in Virat Nagar provides a safe, nurturing, and supportive residential environment for children from vulnerable and marginalized backgrounds. Many children living in the Ashram may have experienced difficult life circumstances such as family separation, poverty, neglect, or trauma.
The Ashram focuses on holistic child development by providing education, emotional support, life skills, and a stable environment that enables children to grow with dignity and confidence. Counselling support plays a critical role in helping children process their experiences, build emotional resilience, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
The Counsellor will work closely with children, caregivers, and program staff to support the emotional well-being, mental health, and personal development of children living in the Ashram.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide individual and group counselling sessions for children residing in the Bal Ashram.
- Support children in addressing emotional, behavioral, and psychological challenges through age-appropriate counselling approaches.
- Create a safe and confidential environment where children feel comfortable sharing their concerns and experiences.
- Identify children who may require additional psychological support and refer them to specialized services when necessary.
- Work closely with caregivers, teachers, and Ashram staff to understand children's needs and support their emotional development.
- Conduct life-skills and well-being sessions on topics such as self-esteem, communication, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution.
- Maintain confidential counselling records, case notes, and progress documentation for children receiving support.
- Observe and assess children's emotional and behavioral patterns and share relevant insights with the program team.
- Support crisis intervention when required and provide guidance during difficult situations involving children.
- Contribute to creating a positive, child-friendly, and supportive environment within the Ashram.
Eligibility Criteria :
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field.
- Prior experience in child counselling, child protection, or working with children in residential care settings will be preferred.
- Understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and child safeguarding practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Hindi (knowledge of the local language is an advantage).
- Comfortable working closely with children from diverse and vulnerable backgrounds.
