TENDER NOTICE
1. Background
Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right and plays a vital role in improving health, reducing poverty, and supporting economic growth. However, increasing population, urbanization, and economic development have led to rising water demand, resulting in depletion of water resources. This has caused water scarcity, droughts, and conflicts in many regions.
To address these challenges, SDG 6 focuses on improving water resource management, enhancing access to safe and affordable water, and promoting efficient water use. It also emphasizes strengthening water infrastructure, governance systems, and partnerships.
In India, the Government launched the Amrit Sarovar Mission on 24th April 2022 to conserve water for future generations. The mission aims to develop and rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district, contributing to a total of 50,000 water bodies across the country. It also encourages community participation and resource mobilization.
WaterAid India supports such initiatives by working with communities and local governments to promote water conservation structures. It provides technical assistance to ensure that these structures are suitable for local conditions and integrates them with practices like efficient irrigation and soil conservation. Pond rejuvenation is one such intervention that helps capture rainwater and recharge groundwater.
2. Objectives and Village Profile
The project aims to rejuvenate a pond in Gram Panchayat Dhaurahi Mafi, & Itora Bhol, Block Karwi, District Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. The objective is to provide a sustainable water source through groundwater recharge and reuse of water for non-drinking purposes. It also seeks to promote community participation in operation and maintenance.
