Background
JSI R&T India Foundation (JSI Foundation) is a not-for-profit organization, registered in 2014 under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013. The mission of the JSI Foundation is to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable communities through innovative, evidence informed and replicable strategies in partnership with government, private sector and civil society. JSI Foundation works closely with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Women and Child Development, as well as state counterparts, leading CSR companies, and Global Fund to implement context specific and comprehensive public health programs in India.
Project Overview
Project Tushti, supported by Nayara Energy, is a flagship initiative aimed at combating malnutrition and improving health outcomes in high-burden areas of Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gujarat. Since its inception in 2019, the project has implemented community-driven interventions that have significantly reduced malnutrition rates in targeted regions.
Building on its success in Devbhumi Dwarka, Project TUSHTI is being expanded to Porbandar, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts, in addition to Devbhumi Dwarka to strengthen maternal and child nutrition outcomes, reduce malnutrition, and build Suposhit Panchayats through convergence, behaviour change communication and service strengthening.
Position Summary
The Block Coordinator will be responsible for overall coordination, supervision and implementation of Project TUSHTI at the block level. The role involves supervising Field Officers, ensuring quality execution of nutrition interventions, strengthening convergence with ICDS and Health Departments, and driving progress toward Suposhit Panchayats.
Key responsibilities-
1. Program Planning & Implementation
- Plan and implement Tushti activities in the assigned block as per the approved work plan.
- Lead high-impact interventions including growth monitoring, CMAM support, THR promotion, Poshan Sabhas, and Nutritional Care Centres.
- Support phased implementation in high-concentration blocks and villages.
2. Team Supervision & Capacity Building
- Supervise and mentor Field Officers, ensuring regular field visits, quality counselling and timely reporting.
- Identify training needs and support capacity building of Field Officers and frontline workers (AWWs, ASHAs, ANMs).
3. Government Convergence & Coordination
- Liaise with ICDS, Health Department, PRI members and block officials to ensure convergence and smooth implementation.
- Support strengthening of VHSNDs, Four Tuesday events, and VHSNC functioning.
- Coordinate referrals and follow-up of SAM/MAM children with health facilities.
4. Community Engagement & Governance
- Support community institutions (VHSNCs, Panchayats) to promote nutrition action and ownership.
- Facilitate progress toward development of Suposhit Panchayats / Wards.
5. Monitoring, Data & Reporting
- Ensure data quality and timely reporting through Poshan Tracker and project MIS.
- Compile and submit monthly block-level progress reports.
- Document best practices, success stories and key learnings from the block.
Key Deliverables / Outputs
- Effective supervision of Field Officers covering all assigned AWCs and villages.
- Regular and quality conduct of growth monitoring, counselling and community events.
- Improved identification, follow-up and recovery of malnourished children.
- Functional VHSNCs and strengthened Four Tuesday and VHSND platforms.
- Measurable progress toward Suposhit Panchayat outcomes in the block.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Graduate/Postgraduate in Social Work, Public Health, Nutrition, Rural Development, or related fields.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in health/nutrition or development programs.
- Prior experience with ICDS, Health Department, or block-level program management preferred.
- Strong communication skills in Gujarati, Hindi, and English.
- Skills in documentation, reporting, MS Office, and basic data analysis.
- Ability to manage teams and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
