It provides comprehensive program design and implementation solutions to companies and social organisations to address issues across cause areas; enhancing capacities in the development sector and building interventions that can be scaled. Collective Good Foundation currently houses ‘Samyak’, a health initiative set up by a team of professionals with extensive experience in the public health sector in India.
Samyak started off by setting up a pan India, multi-stakeholder collaborative (Urban Health Initiative (UHI)) 2 years back, to address urban health and nutrition challenges with a focus on urban poor and marginalized populations. UHI brings together urban practitioners, public health experts, donor agencies, government stakeholders and non-profit organisations to strengthen the urban health system in India, improving the quality of life of people and reducing existing health inequities. Priority areas of UHI includes, among other things, emerging health challenges due to climate change; wherein the Urban Health Initiative is working, under an MoU with the Govt of Uttar Pradesh to address data gaps around climate – health linkages, as well as piloting innovative models to address some of these challenges. UHI is also working in Maharashtra. Partners of Samyak include Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy, Samhita, J-PAL Climate – Health Data Capacity Accelerator, ARTPARK, India Health Fund and ACT for Health.
About the Role
The Collective Good Foundation (CGF) intends to recruit a Senior Manager: Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) for Samyak. The Senior Manager: MERL will play a critical role in driving all MEL activities at Samyak; ensuring that our work has a wide impact on policy and practice, and is able to shape and influence the narrative on urban health in India. Therefore, it is important that the selected candidate has extensive experience of working in this field, experience of working with diverse set of stakeholders, has a strong academic network and is abreast with latest developments in the field of public health research and evaluation practices relevant to the work that Samyak has undertaken. Overall, we are looking for an energetic, analytical and passionate professional who is driven and self-motivated. The position is based out of Mumbai and requires close coordination and working with the State Government of Maharashtra.
Key Functions and Responsibilities
• Analyze complex health datasets, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders, including policy makers.
• Synthesize program findings into high quality curated outputs, including policy briefs, case studies, presentations and reports, tailored for different audiences.
• Read and track latest research, evaluation studies and reports of practice development in the area of urban health, to inform the scoping, design and implementation of Samyak’s work across initiatives.
• Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and cross-functional teams to integrate research findings into public health decision-making.
• Ensure that Samyak’s work is disseminated through academic publications in peer reviewed journals, and promoted through participation in various forums; with research findings positioned to inform policy and practice.
• Design and implement a comprehensive MEL framework for the various programs being implemented by Samyak as also at an organisational level.
• Develop and rollout KPIs, metrics and processes to assess the effectiveness of interventions, aligned to overall objectives.
• Provide inputs, as necessary, to the overall strategy development exercise at Samyak
• Lead the development of data quality assurance plans, reporting tools, data analysis and presentation frameworks.
• Enable processes in which research initiatives are derived from monitoring and evaluation data.
• Design theories of change and MLE frameworks for new grants and potential opportunities.
• Build capacities of internal team members on MLE.
Educational Qualification and Professional Experience
• Post graduate degree in public health and related fields.
• At least 8-12 years of experience working in public health research and MEL.
• Past experience of working in urban health and nutrition related projects will be preferred.
• Track record of publications in peer reviewed journals.
Necessary Skillset
• Knowledge and understanding of public health research, health systems research, research theory and methods, with strong research analysis skills.
• Knowledge of evaluation methods and practice, including evaluation of complex interventions.
• Experience in commissioning and/or managing research activities that are practice and policy-relevant.
• Excellent project management and planning skills.
• Experience of working in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method health services research.
• Experience of research tools and approaches, such as literature searching, software for data analysis, models for evaluating complex interventions.
• Ability to collaborate and work together with different stakeholders; and past experience of leading and building teams.
• Ability to designing data collection tools on digital platforms & Knowledge of statistical softwares like SPSS, STATA, R or proficiency in MS Excel
• Strong proficiency in Marathi, including the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently.
