B. Project Background
The Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation project titled ‘Integrated Climate Risk Management in India (InCRIS)’ is being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Cooperation with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The objective of the project is to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of state actors in selected federal states and at national level for the integrated management of climate risks with a focus on heatwaves.
Integrated heatwave management as a core component of comprehensive climate risk framework remains a crucial task to build resilience and mitigate the cascading impacts of heatwaves on vulnerable communities.
The project focuses on incorporation of holistic approaches for alleviation of heatwave related impacts through policy instruments and actionable strategies at national and sub-national level. These strategies would aim to be gender-responsive and capacity-enhancing for communities, since the impacts of climate change and its associated risks affect different social groups disproportionately.
C. Responsibilities
The Junior Advisor will support the implementation of activities under the Integrated Climate Risk Management in India (InCRIS) project with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). She/he will work closely with the project focal point in NDMA and project’s technical advisors in GIZ, to:
- Support project steering and management structure;
- Assist ideation of Digital tool;
- Contribute to research around disaster risks;
- Support Project outreach (Events/dialogues/Social media/etc) ;and
- Coordination to ensure the smooth execution of project activities.
D. Core Scope of Tasks
Communication and Coordination
- Support operational planning by scheduling partner meetings, updating project progress documentation and compiling technical reports.
- Support organising Project Steering Committee (PSC) and Project management committee meeting (PMC) and record the discussion/agreements.
- Document partner meetings, workshops, seminars, and technical discussions.
- Assist in development of digital support tool on climate risk, facilitate coordination between partner organisations;
Knowledge Management
- Contribute to the documentation and sharing of project activities across GIZ and NDMA partner landscape.
- Support the continuous updating monitoring frameworks and track project progress against key indicators.
- Assist in designing digital communication materials, visibility collaterals, and branding outputs for project outreach.
- Support ideation and execution of multi-disaster communication and outreach material (eg. Videos/social media/ other broadcasting platforms).
Research and Analysis
- Assist in compilation of actionable recommendations and models for managing heatwaves.
- Support national and international exchange forums for sharing knowledge on heatwave management practices (eg CDRI/NIDM).
- Support documentation for national and international conferences on DRR/CRM eg. BRICS, G20-DRR etc.
- Research on the gender inclusive climate & disaster risk management framework in vulnerable regions.
Other duties/additional tasks, if any:
- As advised by Project focal point at NDMA and GIZ
E. Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Master’s degree in environmental studies, Disaster management, development studies, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of relevant work experience in climate change adaptation, sustainable development, disaster risk management, or related sectors.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in climate & disaster risk, gender sensitive development approaches, and climate resilience-building strategies is desirable.
- Familiarity with knowledge management systems, digital tools, and MS Office applications; experience with DMS and MS Teams is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and support multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong coordination and organisational skills; experience supporting multi-stakeholder processes preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to produce technical and outreach materials.
- Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government counterparts, civil society actors, and private sector partners.
- This position may require travel to project sites and partner locations.
