FOUNDATION FOR ECOLOGICAL SECURITY JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Accountant REPORTING TO: Senior Accountant LOCATION : Guwahati, North- East
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accountant will manage day-to-day financial and accounting activities at the North East location, ensure compliance with organizational and statutory norms, maintain accurate financial records, and support budget monitoring, reporting, and audits in coordination with the finance team at the Coordination Office.
# PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential functions but not exhaustive):
1. Review and verification of supporting documents/bills as per guidelines issued by
the Coordination office.
2. Maintenance of Books of Accounts and required subsidiary records at North East regional office, and ensure adherence of all relevant policies, procedures and guidelines issued by the Coordination office.
3. Assist to Senior Accountant on various accounting matters related to the team and follow up for all financial transactions, periodic review, monitoring and settlement of outstanding accounts and reconciliation of the same.
4. Facilitate team-level purchases, ensuring adherence to purchase procedures, documentation, purchase committee notes, and contract administration protocols are
followed. Maintain and update records and physical verification of Assets & Equipment at the team level.
5. Ensure compliance with statutory matters such as Income Tax, Professional Tax, and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act.
6. Undertake any additional responsibilities or assignments as delegated by the reporting officer from time to time, in line with organizational needs.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. Master's Degree / Additional qualification in Accounting, Management Accounting, Business Administration or related field will be preferred.
• Minimum one year of experience in accounts/ finance/ audit functions; Prior experience of working in the non-profit sector is preferable
• Knowledge of Laws, Rules, Regulations and compliance relevant to the functioning of an NGO
• Able to meet deadlines and adapt to changing conditions; Multi-tasking, problem-solving ability, communication skills – written and oral
• Experience of working with Cloud-based Management Software or Enterprise Resource Planning system, MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
