Location: Samvada Campus, Bangalore

Samvada, established 1992, has been sensitizing and empowering young people from marginalized communities to build a socially just, inclusive and sustainable society. Through its key programmes—Sahayana, Baduku Centre for Livelihoods, Kanaja, and Yuvaayana—Samvada focuses on youth leadership development, skill-building, research, and strengthening the youth work ecosystem.

Role of Manager, People & Culture: The Manager, People & Culture will provide strategic and operational leadership for all people-related functions across Samvada. The role is responsible for attracting, developing, engaging and retaining talent while strengthening an organizational culture rooted in equity, inclusion, learning, wellbeing and Indian constitutional values.

The position will work closely with leadership and programme teams to ensure that people systems, policies and practices support organizational effectiveness and staff growth.

The role is expected to move beyond compliance-driven HR Management and actively shape a culture that enables staff to do meaningful work while experiencing dignity, safety, wellbeing and professional growth.

Reporting to: Executive Leadership Team

Responsibilities:
• Lead and implement Samvada's People & Culture strategy aligned with the organisation's vision, values, youth-centric approach, gender justice framework, and long-term growth plans.
• Manage end-to-end talent acquisition processes, ensuring inclusive and equitable recruitment practices that attract diverse and mission-aligned talent.
• Design and facilitate comprehensive onboarding, induction, and orientation processes that help new employees understand Samvada's culture, programmes, values, and ways of working.
• Develop and strengthen employee engagement initiatives that foster collaboration, belonging, motivation, and a positive workplace culture.
• Lead performance management systems, including goal setting, probation and annual reviews, and career development planning.
• Design and implement learning and development strategies, leadership development programmes, and capacity-building initiatives for employees across all programmes and departments.
• Champion Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) practices by embedding gender equity, inclusion, accessibility, and constitutional values across organisational policies and processes.
• Lead staff wellbeing initiatives and create systems that support mental health, work-life balance, employee safety, and a culture of care.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable labour laws, statutory requirements, POSH regulations, safeguarding standards, and organizational policies.
• Manage employee relations, grievance redressal mechanisms, conflict resolution processes, and disciplinary matters with fairness, confidentiality, and sensitivity.
• Oversee HR operations including employee records, contracts, leave management, payroll coordination, HRMIS, reporting, and data management.
• Develop and review people policies, employee handbooks, compensation frameworks, and HR systems to ensure relevance, compliance, and organizational effectiveness.
• Actively participate in staff committees and contribute to building, reviewing, and strengthening organizational systems, policies, and practices that promote transparency, inclusion, accountability, and employee wellbeing.
• Serve as a culture steward by promoting reflective practice, accountability, learning, collaboration, and values-based leadership across the organization.

Qualification: Master's degree in Human Resources/ Social Work, Management, or a related field.

Experience:
• 7–10 years of experience in HR, People & Culture, or related functions, preferably in the development sector.
• Strong understanding of labour laws, POSH compliance, employee engagement, organizational development, and performance management.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand both Kannada and English fluently.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender justice, inclusion, youth development, and social change values.
