Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented and accountable Finance Officer to manage the financial operations of the organization, with primary responsibility for Indian donor-funded projects and other assigned organizational funds.
The role involves financial planning, accounting, budgeting, donor financial reporting, utilization monitoring, compliance, documentation, banking, and audit coordination. The Finance Officer will work closely with programme and finance teams to ensure effective financial planning, accurate reporting, and adherence to organizational and donor requirements.
The position will also provide guidance and handholding support to junior members of the finance team to ensure consistent implementation of financial systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
1) Manage financial operations of assigned Indian donor-funded projects, including budget monitoring, expenditure tracking, and fund utilization.
2) Prepare and review budget vs. expenditure statements, financial projections, donor-wise financial reports, and financial updates.
3) Maintain accurate accounting records in Tally, including cash book, bank records, vouchers, payment and receipt records, and other financial registers.
4) Support budgeting and financial planning for projects, trainings, workshops, meetings, and other programme activities.
Verify bills, invoices, consultant payments, vendor payments, and other financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
5) Ensure adherence to organizational financial policies, donor requirements, and applicable statutory regulations.
6) Coordinate banking and payment-related activities, including bank reconciliation, RTGS/NEFT, cheque transactions, and payment processing.
7) Coordinate and support internal and statutory audits, ensuring complete and audit-ready financial documentation.
8) Prepare and maintain financial records and documentation in a systematic and accessible manner.
9) Coordinate with programme teams to monitor financial utilization and address budgetary or documentation gaps.
10) Provide guidance and handholding support to junior finance team members on accounting procedures, documentation, and financial systems.
11) Undertake other financial and organizational responsibilities as assigned by the Finance Coordinator or management.
Knowledge & Competencies
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Good understanding of donor financial management and compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of financial controls, audit processes, documentation standards, and statutory compliance.
• Working knowledge of Indian financial and taxation requirements.
• Knowledge of FCRA financial rules and compliance will be an added advantage.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and financial discipline.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, assess financial information, and take timely corrective action.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with finance, programme, and administrative teams.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professional responsibility.
Technical Skills
Tally: Strong working knowledge of accounting entries, ledgers, vouchers, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
MS Excel: Good proficiency in formulas, sorting/filtering, data management, Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
Google Workspace: Working knowledge of Google Sheets, Google Drive, and shared documentation.
Educational Qualification & Experience
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Relevant professional experience in finance and accounts, preferably in the development/NGO sector.
• Experience in managing donor-funded projects, financial reporting, budgeting, audit coordination, and compliance will be preferred.
• Practical experience in Tally and Excel-based financial management is essential.
• Candidates with knowledge of FCRA compliance and NGO financial management will have an added advantage.
