About Jan Sahas
Jan Sahas is a community-centric organization with a vision to ensure dignity and equality for all. Its mission focuses on promoting safe migration, worker protection, and the prevention of violence against women and children. Guided by its core values—equity, dignity, transformative leadership, co-creation, and integrity—the organization works collaboratively with communities and government systems, while also nurturing a broader ecosystem of grassroots, community-based nonprofits. Over the years, it has played a catalytic role in shifting systems to address structural injustices such as forced labour, sexual violence, and manual scavenging. The organisation designed and piloted a nationally recognized model for survivor support centres, which has since been scaled through state adoption in Madhya Pradesh. It also contributed to landmark legislation prohibiting manual scavenging and ensuring compensation for victims. Jan Sahas’s work is best described through the initiatives it supports. Through MRC’s last-mile delivery and systems change, DFI’s survivor-led interventions, and GRI’s grassroots capacity building, Jan Sahas has emerged as a key partner in co-creating solutions with major stakeholders. This has delivered tangible outcomes for millions while driving intangible impacts that empower communities, shift norms, and build long-term resilience. To read more about our programs, clickhere.
About GRI
Established in 2022, the Grassroots Resilience Institute (GRI) empowers CSOs led by marginalized communities—including Dalits, tribals, women, minorities, survivor leaders, and LGBTQI+ individuals—by strengthening their organizational capacities in areas such as governance, financial management, compliance, leadership, policies, fundraising, and donor management. Over the past four years, GRI has supported more than 90 CSOs and observed that, while many secure programmatic funding, they often lack the skilled personnel and systems needed for long-term sustainability. To address this gap, GRI builds the capacities of founders and staff, provides targeted financial support where feasible, and facilitates connections with aligned donors to help CSOs diversify funding and enhance resilience.
