Brief on the Organization:
The Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) is working towards building a healthier India. It is helping to address the limited institutional and systems capacity in India by strengthening education and training, advancing research and technology and facilitating policy and practice in the area of Public Health. PHFI is headquartered in New Delhi with national presence through its constituent units of regional Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) and Centers of Applied Research in core public health themes. The Foundation, established in 2006 as a public private initiative, is governed by an independent board comprising of senior government officials, eminent Indian and International academic and leaders, civil society representatives and corporate leaders. Project Brief:
Public health and Healthcare services are vital for reducing the mortality and morbidity of the masses. Public health activities are focused on health promotion, prevention and treatment of diseases, and increasing longevity. If good health is to be achieved, then the efforts need to be made towards evidence based Public Health Interventions. Human Resources are the lifeline to implement any healthcare intervention. To improve public health outcomes, clinical, public health, and administrative activities need to be targeted separately.
For healthcare services to be responsive to the people’s need and effective, it needs to address the issues of disease prevention, health promotion, mortality and morbidity for which public health activities are essential. To provide Universal Health Coverage, the health care system needs to be sound and address all relevant health issues. The NFHS-6 (2023-24) showed that the states have made considerable progress on the health front in the period between NFHS-4 and NFHS-6. There is a significant improvement in the Reproductive & Child Health and Fertility indicators. The Infant Mortality and the Under-Five mortality and the Delivery indicators showed substantial improvements. There is moderate improvement in the anemia among adults and children across the state. Strengthening of Health Systems require consistent and continuous efforts based on the regularly updated evidences. Institution Strengthening Grant is to provide support for building the institutional capacities in the priority states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh states are identified among the socio-economically disadvantaged states in India. The health systems had long suffered from structural deficiencies in these states which have contributed to poor health outcomes, compared to the other states in India. In the recent years there have been several positive efforts towards the improvement & strengthening of health systems and health sectors.
Job Summary:
The incumbent will contribute to drafting project proposals, developing manuscripts, preparing technical reports, and supporting various documentation needs. Responsibilities also include conducting situational analyses in the health sector, reviewing epidemiological data, and offering technical inputs for project implementation. The role further involves providing hands-on training to project personnel on public health aspects, participating in internal project review meetings, undertaking project-related travel, and carrying out additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor/PI.
Deliverables:
The major duties and responsibilities will include:
• Provide technical assistance to the project/s PI.
• Support in Situational Analysis on various aspects of the Health Sector. Facilitate development of new project proposals/strategies, writing report, documentation derived from the situational analysis.
• Review of epidemiological data and provide feedback to the implementation
• Monitoring and implementation of various research projects, capacity development, on a regular basis.
• Hands-on training of project personnel in Public Health aspects.
• Attend project meeting with the government representatives, liaison with technical agencies.
• Participate in internal project review meeting and provide inputs to project team.
• Develop and update guidelines, TORs, curriculum, templates, formats, training modules, along with guidance document.
• Undertake project related travel as per requirement.
• Support supervisor and team for handling day today implementation for project activities.
• Undertake any other activities / tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification:
Essential:
• MD (Community Medicine / Preventive & Social Medicine / Community Health or PhD in Public Health with Masters in Public Health (MPH), MBBS or BDS at under graduation level.
Desirable:
• 3-5 Research publications.
Experience:
Essential:
• Around 3 - 5 years of work experience in public health/ research/ project management; in development sector
Desirable:
• Work experience of Public Health Practise at National/Regional levels and working with multiple stakeholders.
• Academic/Research Experience.
Skills & Competencies:
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
• Ability to work in cross cultural teams.
• Ability to plan, conceptualize and organize.
• Documentation and report writing skills.
• Ability to innovate/ “think tank” for the organization
• Ability to do the data analysis, report writing, research proposal writing, effectively work on develop of manuscript for publication.
