About this Assignment
ChildFund India is committed to advancing the well-being, protection and resilience of children, adolescents, youth and communities through integrated and evidence-based development interventions. Building Sustainability and Resilience (BS&R) is a strategic priority, focusing on child-centered climate action, climate adaptation, environmental sustainability, agroforestry, carbon projects, water security, heat resilience and disaster risk reduction. To strengthen field-level implementation and technical support across priority geographies, ChildFund India seeks to recruit a consultant for the Environment, Sustainability and Resilience portfolio based in Mumbai/Delhi/Bhubaneswar. They are expected to travel to villages, districts and state-level meetings as required.
 
Remain alert and responsive to any safeguarding risks; acquire and maintain the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to promote strong safeguarding practices; understand and adhere to ChildFund India’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures; and conduct yourself at all times in a manner consistent with ChildFund India’s safeguarding principles and standards.
 
 
 
Required Experience and Education
  • Education: Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Agriculture, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability Studies, Disaster Management, Rural Development or a related discipline.
  • Fresh college graduates may be considered where they demonstrate strong academic grounding, field orientation, learning agility and motivation to work on climate and sustainability issues.
  • Experience: 4 years of experience in climate action, agroforestry, carbon projects, environmental sustainability, community development, natural resource management or related projects is preferred.
  • Job Knowledge: Foundational understanding of child-centered climate action, climate adaptation, agroforestry systems, carbon project concepts, water security, climate-resilient WASH and community resilience approaches.
  • Skills & Ability: Good communication, facilitation, analytical and writing skills in English and relevant local language. Ability to support proposal writing, project design, implementation planning, field coordination, data collection, documentation and reporting.
 
Scope of Work
1. Project Design and Proposal Development
  • Support development of concept notes, proposals, project designs, implementation plans, activity budgets, results frameworks and monitoring indicators.
  • Contribute technical inputs on child-centered climate action, agroforestry, carbon projects, climate adaptation, water security, climate-resilient WASH, watershed management, heat resilience and environmental sustainability initiatives.
 
2. Portfolio Implementation, Strategy and Technical Support
  • Support implementation of Environment, Sustainability and Resilience projects in assigned geographies, including village, district and state-level planning and coordination.
  • Assist in developing local strategies, technical guidance notes, implementation tools and field protocols for climate and resilience interventions.
  • Integrate nature-based solutions, agroforestry models, carbon project concepts, climate-smart technologies and community-led resilience practices into programme activities.
  • Ensure alignment with relevant national and state policies, government schemes, climate action priorities, disaster risk reduction frameworks and sustainability goals.
  • Support field reviews, vulnerability assessments, climate-risk assessments, community consultations, baseline activities and programme evaluations.
  • Compile programme data and support preparation of technical reports, dashboards, policy briefs, case studies and knowledge products.
 
3. Stakeholder Engagement, Partnerships and Convergence
  • Build partnerships with government departments, disaster management agencies, water authorities, academic institutions, technical agencies, CSR and development partners.
  • Support convergence with relevant government programmes and represent ChildFund India in technical forums.
 
4. Capacity Strengthening
  • Develop training modules, IEC/BCC materials, toolkits and operational manuals.
  • Conduct trainings and mentoring for staff, partners and community institutions.
 
5. Resource Mobilisation
  • Support donor mapping, proposal development, technical narratives and partnership development for sustainability and resilience initiatives.
 
Additional responsibilities given by the manager, including technical support and other duties required to meet programme priorities.
