ABOUT SNEHA
SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) is a Mumbai-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, nutrition, and safety of women and children living in vulnerable urban informal settlements. Our mission is to empower urban women and children through integrated health and nutrition programs, education, and advocacy.

We work through a dual approach—engaging both care seekers and care providers. At the community level, we empower women and families to become agents of change, while simultaneously collaborating with public health and safety systems to drive sustainable improvements in urban health outcomes.

Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 620,555 women, children, and healthcare workers, and indirectly impacted a population of over 3.63 million across seven municipal corporations and three municipal councils in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Today, SNEHA is a 500+ member organization with deep grassroots presence and a strong track record of reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, child malnutrition, adolescent anemia, and violence prevention against women and children—key determinants of health equity for families and communities.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
SNEHA’s Program on Prevention of Violence against Women and Children (PVWC) aims to develop high-impact strategies for primary prevention, ensure survivors’ access to protection and justice, empower women to claim their rights, mobilise communities around ‘zero tolerance for violence’, and respond to the needs and rights of excluded and neglected groups. The Program prioritizes enhanced co-ordination of the state response to crimes against women through a convergence approach that works with government and public systems to reinforce their roles in assuring basic social, civil and economic security.

The Goal of VISHWAS project is to build resilient health systems and empower communities to prevent and respond to violence against women and young people through integrated survivor-centred services, community-led prevention strategies, and multi-sectoral support systems, thereby advancing the health, safety, and well-being of women and young people across the life course.

PROFILE SNAPSHOT
Designation: Community Organizer

Role: The Community Organizer is responsible for implementing intervention to prevent and respond to violence against women and children (VAWC) within the assigned intervention area with active involvement and participation of ASHA with MAS members.

Educational Requirement: HSC/Para professional course

Experience: Minimum 2-3 years on field with ASHAs and health systems. Gender based work experience would be preferred

COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The position supports community engagement, case identification and referral and first response and intervention by ASHAs, coordination with public systems, and routine monitoring and documentation to ensure effective Program delivery.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program implementation & planning
• Implement day-to-day project activities in assigned UPHC areas as per the project work plan and guidance of the Program Officer.
• Develop weekly and monthly implementation plans and review progress regularly with the Program Coordinator.
• Support field-level monitoring and timely completion of planned activities.

2. Community Mobilization & Engagement
• Engage with MAS members and community stakeholders to conduct outreach, mobilization,
• awareness sessions, group meetings, trainings and campaigns.
• Promote community participation and awareness of available health and support services.
• Build and maintain rapport with individuals, families and community institutions.

3. Identification, Referral & Case Support
• Identify individuals and families requiring support and provide basic information and guidance on available services.
• Facilitate timely referrals to appropriate health, police, legal, psychosocial and other support services.
• Follow up on referrals and coordinate with relevant service providers as required.

4. Stakeholder Coordination & Convergence
• Liaise with frontline workers, public health facilities, police, community institutions and civil society organizations to strengthen coordination and referral pathways.
• Coordinate with MCH and Addiction Program Officers to support integrated service delivery and case management.

5. Data Management & Documentation
• Collect and update program data using approved tools and digital platforms, ensuring timely, complete and accurate reporting.
• Maintain activity reports, referral records, beneficiary registers, case documentation and case studies.

6. Team Participation & Programme Quality
• Participate in team meetings, supervision visits, trainings and monitoring activities.
• Incorporate feedback from supervision and monitoring to strengthen the quality of program implementation.
• Undertake other responsibilities assigned by the Program Officer or Project Manager to support effective project implementation.
