About Prerana
Prerana is a civil society organisation established in 1986 to address intergenerational trafficking into the sex trade in Kamathipura, formerly Asia’s largest red-light district. Prerana is committed to ensuring optimum protection of children through a continuum of care approach that integrates child protection with anti-human trafficking interventions. Since its inception, Prerana’s pioneering efforts have supported victims across the entire cycle from prevention to rehabilitation and repatriation. Over nearly four decades, the organisation has addressed critical issues including sex trafficking, gender-based violence, child sexual abuse, and child protection, while contributing to policy-level changes
About the Project
Project Aashiyana operates under the Transform NEEV Collective, focusing on family strengthening, prevention of family- child separation, and promotion of community-based alternative care systems. It works with vulnerable communities in Mumbai Suburban and Thane districts, along with cross-state engagements to strengthen practice and systems.
The project is currently in an extended phase with confirmed timelines up to February 2027 and includes multi-state coordination, consultations, and structured stakeholder engagement.
Context of the Role
The Project Coordinator will anchor coordination across programme components, partnerships, and geographies. The role requires a strong grounding in child protection systems and family strengthening approaches, along with the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder engagements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Coordination
- Coordinate implementation of project activities across locations in Mumbai and partner states
- Ensure alignment between programme timelines, deliverables, and field execution
- Track progress against workplans and proactively flag risks or delays
2. Stakeholder and Systems Coordination
- Liaise with Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), District Child Protection Units (DCPUs), Child Care Institutions (CCIs), and partner organizations
- Ensure consistent engagement with stakeholders within the Juvenile Justice system
- Support strengthening of system linkages for family-based care and prevention of institutionalisation
3. Cross-State Engagements
- Coordinate consultations, workshops, and knowledge exchanges across states
- Manage communication and coordination with partner organizations and networks
- Support planning and execution of zonal consultations and system-level discussions
4. Meeting and Event Coordination
- Plan and coordinate internal and external meetings, including multi-stakeholder consultations
- Prepare agendas, track action points, and ensure timely follow-ups
- Oversee logistics including travel, accommodation, and participant coordination
5. Planning and Tracking
- Maintain trackers for programme activities, stakeholder engagement, and timelines
- Support development and monitoring of monthly and quarterly workplans
- Coordinate with documentation and MIS teams to ensure readiness for reporting
- Engage in continuous learning by reviewing relevant thematic literature, policy updates, and sector developments.
6. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with programme, documentation, and leadership teams for alignment
- Facilitate communication across teams to ensure clarity and efficiency
- Provide operational support across project locations as required
Required Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work with a minimum of two years’ experience in programme coordination within the development sector
- Strong understanding of child protection systems in India, including the JJ Act framework
- Clear conceptual grounding in family strengthening, gatekeeping, and family based alternative care
- Comfort with regular inter-state field visits
- Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and geographies
- Strong organisational, planning, and follow-up skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
Preferred Competencies
- Experience working with government systems and multi-state initiatives
- Familiarity with consultations, network coordination, and stakeholder engagement processes
- Proficiency in English; working knowledge of Hindi and Marathi preferred
Salary
- Annual Salary Range: Rs.5,50,000 – Rs.6,00,000
- Commensurate with qualifications and experience
