Jan Sahas, established in the year 2000, is a not for profit grassroots organization committed to promote the development and protect the rights of socially excluded communities with special focus on girls and women through the eradication of all forms of bondage including manual scavenging and caste-based prostitution; empowerment of adolescent girls and women to end violence and gender justice, skill development for dignified livelihoods and social entrepreneurship; legal aid for access to justice and reform in the criminal justice system; support in education; food and nutrition security; land and agriculture development; develop barefoot lawyers to build victim or survivors as leader and empowerment of communities through capacity and organization building.
 
About MRC: Migrants Resilience Collaborative (MRC) is a grassroots-led multi-stakeholder collaborative of non-profit, philanthropic, and private sector actors focused on ensuring dignity, safety, security, and mobility for vulnerable migrant families across India. The Collaborative will be India's largest grassroots-led collaborative, and largest non-governmental initiative dedicated to the migrant workers and their families.
 
We will support 10 million workers and their families in 100 districts and cities (across source and destination) over the next 5 years with the following outcomes:
  • Delivering social security entitlements
  • Providing access to responsible and ethical recruitment
  • Strengthening tracking, worker protections, welfare, and redressal
  • Enhancing financial inclusion through facilitating delivery of appropriate financial products
  • Integrating climate resilience into programme delivery, including state-level initiatives, innovation pilots, and community and stakeholder engagement

Summary: The Program Lead, MRC will guide the overall implementation of program activities under MRC. These include social security and entitlement, worker protection, and engagement with the government and industry. The Program Lead will report to the Senior Program Lead and will play a key role in implementing MRC’s vision to support migrants in India.  The role also supports the integration of climate resilience into programme implementation, particularly in the context of emerging risks affecting migrant and informal workers
 
Key responsibilities:
 
The Program Lead will be responsible for the following activities to advance MRC’s overall goals:
  • Develop and implement activities related to MRC including but not limited to social security entitlement and worker protection
  • Design/refine and implement processes and systems critical to the MRC program delivery
  • Hire, train, and coach team members as needed
  • Supervise day-to-day activities and monitor field operations and ensure timely achievement of program output and outcome
  • Lead and ensure effective implementation of climate-related pilots and field interventions, including innovation lab programmes, and take primary responsibility for government and city-level engagement
  • Support field research and generate evidence to inform and strengthen climate-responsive and worker-centric interventions
  • Work closely with the MEL team to analyse data and prepare reports to refine program activities
  • Closely work with the research team to design and implement field-level researches to refine program and build a nuanced understanding of migrant communities
  • Liaise with other MRC teams such as Partnership and Communication to ensure smooth delivery of MRC program
  • Support engagement with government and city-level stakeholders to align climate interventions with local systems and priorities
  • Develop knowledge material and represent Jan Sahas/MRC in conferences and seminars
Experience and qualification:
  • Masters-level degree (or higher) in rural development, public policy, social science or other relevant streams
  • 2-5 years of experience in design and delivery of development programs
  • Experience of working with non-government organisations, donor and philanthropic organisations or development consulting organisations is preferred  
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • High proficiency in verbal and written English and Hindi. Proficiency in other Indian languages is preferred  
  • Prior experience in working with multi-stakeholder platforms, government systems, or urban programmes will be an advantage
Inter-personal skills:
  • Strong leadership and multitasking skills; proven ability to be flexible in a team-oriented approach with diverse group of people
  • Strong field orientation and empathy towards the needs of migrants
  • Ability to remain calm especially during peak hours or intense situations
  • Ability to quickly adopt diversity, culture and ethos of the organization
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills, ability to motivate employees
  • Strong networking skills particularly with key stakeholders in the development sector
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, especially with government and community institutions
Base Location: Bangalore
