It is a subsidiary of The Nature Conservancy, one of the largest not-for-profit conservation organizations in the world. NCIS’ registered o ce is at 37, Second Floor, Link Road, Lajpat Nagar- III New Delhi-110024, India. NCIS was incorporated with the objective of providing research, consulting, technical support, and advisory services to various stakeholders in and outside India relating to conservation of nature, environment, biodiversity, and climate change.
About the consultancy assignment:
As India advances toward its ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy (RE) capacity by 2030, the need for innovative, inclusive, and ecologically responsible solutions has never been more critical. Scaling RE at this magnitude requires careful planning, particularly regarding land and resource use. Solar and wind energy projects have substantial land footprints, and uninformed siting can lead to land conflicts, project delays, increased risks, and adverse impacts on biodiversity, communities, and RE industry. Therefore, RE development by adopting smart low impact siting practices, repurposing degraded lands, and other innovative approaches such as dual use of land for agriculture with solar energy generation etc. are essential to ensure that India’s clean energy transition is rapid, responsible, and resilient.
NCIS is actively engaged in India on areas such as environmental restoration, biodiversity conservation, and climate change, while collaborating with various government stakeholders and technical partners. A key focus of these efforts is accelerating renewable energy development in India as one of the thematic pillars. The Associate Programme Manager – RE will play a key role in supporting TNC’s India Renewable Energy team to achieve planned outcomes. This position requires strong analytical, technical, interpersonal, and partnership-building skills to strengthen and scale renewable energy initiatives across India. S/he will drive collaboration with governments, public sector undertakings, civil society, and other key stakeholders, serving as a subject matter expert at both national and sub-national levels to advance and expand ongoing renewable energy efforts.

Desired Qualifications, Experience and Competencies:
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as Renewable Energy, Engineering,
- Environmental Science, or a related field a related discipline
- Minimum 6 years of work experience in energy sector including program design and management at national and sub-national level in India, with strong understanding of the Indian renewable energy landscape, policies, and regulations.
- Experience working in India and working across multiple cultures and time-zones and with diverse groups of staff and partners.
- Advanced skills in data acquisition, analysis, and representation. Proficient in tools and techniques for renewable energy potential assessment to support strategic decision-making and sustainable energy planning.
- Experience in supporting strategic programs and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including government
- cials, project partners, and other stakeholders.
- Strong experience in conducting technical reviews, quality assurance, and monitoring of project deliverables.
- Knowledge of conducting environmental impact analysis and geospatial tools and platforms (such as GIS, remote sensing, or spatial analysis software) will be an asset.
- Prior experience working with international development organizations, multilateral agencies, or global NGOs, including familiarity with their processes, standards, and reporting requirement.
