Position Description
PopulationCouncil Consulting (PCC) is seeking a dynamic Data Analyst to conduct rigorous, advanced statistical analyses and synthesise evidence across multiple assessment, monitoring, and evaluation engagements and data sets (including longitudinal data). The data analyst will work with senior researchers of the project team to analyse large-scale datasets and generate insights to shape program strategies. The role emphasises applied analytics and data visualisation to shape program strategies and support decisionmaking for CSR entities, national and international development organisations, multilateral organisations, and government departments. This role is ideal for early-career researchers and data science enthusiasts looking to apply their skills for real-world human development impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Statistical Analysis and Insights
- Analyse large-scale datasets such as DHS, HMIS, and program monitoring data.
- Perform descriptive, correlational, and advanced statistical analyses (e.g., regression, causal, and latent class analysis).
- Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies to generate actionable insights for program strategies.
2. Data Management and Quality Assurance
- Clean, shape, and manage primary and secondary datasets, including longitudinal data.
- Conduct systematic data quality checks, including outlier detection, missing data analysis, and internal consistency.
- Support preparation of research frameworks, study tools, and documentation for datasets and indicators.
- Supervise data quality in the field and offer technical resolutions to field teams.
3. Visualisation and Communication
- Translate complex findings into clear charts, infographics, and data stories using visualisation tools.
- Build and maintain automated dashboards and reporting systems.
- Contribute to the development of high-quality research reports, learning briefs, policy notes, and manuscripts for publication.
- Support the team in developing concept notes and proposals for new projects.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
- Master’s or PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Demography, Economics, Public Health, Climate Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in data analysis, data mining, or a related analytical role. Candidates experienced with data visualisation and Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar software will be preferred.
- High proficiency with statistical analysis tools such as R, SAS or SPSS.
- Proficiency in SQL and Advanced MS Excel for data queries.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to translate data into "data stories".
- Ability to work independently and manage timelines in a fast-paced environment..
