CONTENT OF TERMS OF REFERENCE (TOR)
1. Background:
Integrating Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability (CCES) into Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Schools is critical to safeguarding children’s health, learning outcomes, and overall, well?being amid escalating climate risks. Children are among the most affected by climate impacts, as climate?related shocks disrupt education, compromise health and nutrition, and exacerbate existing inequalities, including gender?based vulnerabilities and protection risks for adolescent girls.
A safe, inclusive, and gender?responsive learning environment depends on sustainable and climate?resilient WASH services, including reliable and safe water supply, climate?adaptive sanitation systems, functional handwashing facilities, resilient solid and liquid waste management, and sustained hygiene practices. These services are essential for maintaining continuity under climate stresses, improving attendance and retention, and ensuring health, dignity, equity, and empowerment, particularly for adolescent girls.
