About Calcutta Foundation
Calcutta Foundation, through its flagship program Apni Kutir, aims to support women at every stage of their journey towards financial independence through three core verticals: skilling & literacy, individual development, and community building. With 24 centres currently operating across West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, the Foundation provides skill development training such as tailoring, beauty and wellness, digital literacy, and life skills to young girls and women. Our holistic, 360-degree approach ensures women receive not just skills but also guidance, confidence, and emotional support to build sustainable livelihoods.

Female Local Candidates
In alignment with our commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for women, this position is open to local female candidates only. Our goal is to maintain an all-female team to best serve the needs of the Apni Kutir community.

Role Overview
The Placement Officer plays a transformative role in the Apni Kutir ecosystem — going beyond job placement to actively build an earning mindset among women who have completed vocational training. This role is as much about counselling and mentorship as it is about market linkages. The Placement Officer works closely with graduates to help them overcome social and psychological barriers to earning, and connects them to employment, self-employment, and market opportunities, and provides sustained support to ensure that the skills they have gained translate into real and lasting economic independence.

Key Responsibilities
Earning Mindset & Counselling
• Counsel and mentor trained women to build confidence in their ability to earn — addressing mindset barriers, family resistance, and social norms that inhibit economic participation.
• Facilitate individual and group sessions on financial independence, self-worth, and the value of skilled work.
• Work with families and community members where necessary to create a supportive environment for women entering the workforce or starting home-based enterprises.
• Provide ongoing motivational support and follow-up to placed graduates to sustain their engagement and confidence.

Market Linkages & Earning Opportunities
• Identify and develop diverse earning pathways for graduates — including salaried employment, freelance and piece-rate work, home-based production, cooperative models, and self-employment.
• Build and maintain active relationships with local employers, boutiques, parlours, contractors, retailers, and other market actors who can provide work to trained women.
• Facilitate market linkages for women in handicraft trades (zari, stitching, mehendi) by connecting them to buyers, aggregators, and sales channels.
• Organise local job fairs, melas, and employer meets to create direct exposure between graduates and opportunities.
• Stay current on local market demand, wage rates, and emerging livelihood opportunities to continuously update placement strategies.

Placement & Post-Placement Support
• Ensure effective matchmaking between trained candidates and suitable job roles or earning opportunities based on skills, interest, and location.
• Prepare students for placement through resume-building, interview preparation, and practical soft skills training.
• Track the earning status of all placed graduates through regular post-placement follow-up.
• Identify and address challenges faced by placed women — transportation, workplace issues, family pressure — and connect them to appropriate support.

Employer Engagement & Curriculum Feedback
• Develop relationships with potential employers, industry partners, and recruitment agencies across relevant trades.
• Provide regular feedback to trainers and the central team on market expectations and skill gaps to keep the training curriculum locally relevant and demand-driven.
• Liaise with community leaders, SHGs, and local organisations to map employment trends and opportunities.

Data Tracking & Reporting
• Maintain a detailed database of graduates, their placement status, earning levels, and employer contacts.
• Prepare monthly reports on placement outcomes, earning trends, and follow-up status.
• Document success stories and case studies to support donor reporting and programme communication.

Key Requirements
10. Strong communication skills in Marathi, Hindi, and basic English (spoken and written) are essential.
11. Deep empathy and counselling ability — comfort engaging with women on personal and social barriers to earning.
12. Strong networking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with employers and market actors.
13. Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
14. Ability to work independently in the field with initiative and self-motivation.
15. Willingness to travel frequently across the centre's catchment area.
16. Demonstrated connections within the community and markets will be an advantage.

Qualifications
17. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
18. 1-3 years of experience in placement, livelihood promotion, community mobilisation, or a similar role.
19. Experience working with NGOs or women-focused development programmes is preferred.
