MEAL Officer - India: 1 position
Duration of the agreement: 5 June 2026- 31 Dec 2026 (initial six months with possible extension)
Terms & Conditions: Fixed Term (Renewable contract subject to funding situation)
Location: Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, India
Main mission:
The MEAL Officer implements monitoring & evaluation activities on the project(s) and/or in the geographical areas of intervention to which he or she is assigned, as defined in the monitoring & evaluation system framework established by the Regional MEAL Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
Operational implementation:
1. Is responsible for the collection of field data for monitoring & evaluation surveys :
- Contributes to the creation, translation and validation of data collection tools;
- Helps define the schedule and means required for the implementation of monitoring & evaluation activities;
- Takes part in the selection and training of the community or daily workers contributing to quantitative and qualitative surveys;
- Ensures the effective collection of the information necessary for the success of monitoring & evaluation activities;
- Ensures that obstacles to field activities are identified and passes this information on to his or her line manager;
- Takes part in presenting the findings of surveys.
2. Participates in project evaluation and self-evaluation activities:
- Contributes at least once a year to project self-evaluations led by the project managers;
- Contributes to project evaluations led by internal or external evaluators
3. Transmits relevant monitoring information to the programme’s information system:
- Complies with the procedures for transmitting collected information, as described by the programme’s information management system;
- Writes regular reports on the monitoring & evaluation of the activities conducted;
4. Regularly evaluates the work done and suggests improvements
- Contributes to representing HI in the communities
- Contributes to providing feedback on the results of monitoring & evaluation activities to the populations and partners;
- As part of his or her tasks, represents HI with the population and partners, respecting the organisation’s values and maintaining cordial, positive and close working relations.
5. Emergency preparedness and response
Contributes to the programme’s emergency preparedness actions and, in an emergency, adapts his or her working methods to contribute to an effective humanitarian approach by HI.
Qualification and Skills Required:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics / Humanitarian Aid / Development studies, or any relevant
- areas of Social Science Disciplines.
- Preferable – Master's Degree in a relevant field.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in MEAL preferably in development and humanitarian context.
Other Desirable Requirements:
- Working experience in education-based humanitarian and development projects will be an added advantage.
- Experience in project monitoring, evaluation, information management, and research with an I/NGO in the humanitarian / emergency and development field.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, implementation, monitoring, organizing, analyzing, and report writing preferably in any HI thematic areas like MHPSS, Functional
- Rehabilitation, Protection and Risk Reduction including Protection against Violence.
- Work in a team approach, Willing to take on additional responsibilities, work under pressure, and take initiative.
- Languages: Oral and written communication skills in English, Hindi
- IT skills: Proficient knowledge of relevant software: MS Office package (Excel, Access,
- Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), Mobile data collection tools (SurveyCTO), and other database programs.
- Data Analysis: Quantitative and qualitative data analysis, preferably SPSS, R, GIS, PowerBI, NViVO, etc.
- Familiar with and abide by the I/NGO

Compensation & Other Benefits:
Salary: Per Month from INR 103,500 to INR 105,500 (all-inclusive monthly salary: basic, housing, transportation, communication, COLA, bonus, PF, gratuity, etc.) Benefits:
