1. Introduction and Background
Climate change is the defining challenge of our time. Across India and the world, the need for a scientifically literate, action-oriented generation of young professionals has never been more urgent. Institutions of higher education occupy a unique position to cultivate this capacity, not merely through curriculum, but through deliberate, structured learning experiences that connect knowledge to action.
The Centre for Environment Education (CEE), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, has been at the forefront of environment education for over four decades. In partnership with Ecocert India, a globally recognised conformity assessment body with deep expertise in sustainability and ecological standards, CEE is proud to launch the
Climate Learning Programme 2026: an initiative designed to equip the next generation of Indian students with the knowledge, tools, and mindset to understand and address climate change.
As part of this initiative, CEE and Ecocert India invite colleges and universities across Bengaluru to participate as Institutional Partners and nominate their students for a fully sponsored enrolment in the flagship online course: "Learn Climate Science, Lead Climate Action".
2. About the Online Course
"Learn Climate Science, Lead Climate Action" is a self-paced online course developed by subject-matter experts at CEE and peer-reviewed for content accuracy and pedagogical rigour. The course is designed to be accessible to students across disciplines, from engineering and commerce to humanities and life sciences, requiring no prior background in environmental science.
2.1 Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, enrolled students will be able to:
- Understand the foundational science of climate change, including the carbon cycle, greenhouse gas dynamics, and climate modelling.
- Analyse the socio-economic and ecological impacts of climate change across local, national, and global scales.
- Explore policy frameworks, international agreements, and India's commitments under the Paris Agreement and national action plans.
- Identify pathways for individual and institutional climate action aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Develop practical skills in climate communication and community-level engagement.
2.2 Course Structure and Format
- Delivery Mode: Fully online, self-paced; accessible via any internet-enabled device.
- Duration: Approximately 30 hours of learning content, completable over 4–6 weeks.
