Position Overview

General purpose of the position
To carry out community engagement activities and implement the objectives of the Community Engagement project in India, Abhay Sankalp, in each region in alignment of the vision of the Companion Animals & Engagement department of Humane World for Animals/India.

Essential duties and responsibilities
Education & Awareness (70%)
1. Engage and communicate with the community to prevent and mitigate human – dog conflict.
2. Work with the community to gather nomination and nurture a strong volunteer/support network within communities for street dog related issues.
3. Support and assist the Dog Management (DM) team in carrying out activities with community involvement.
4. Address complaints registered from communities through multiple channels and assist the DM team in doing the same where required
5. Conduct Knowledge Attitude Practices (KAP) surveys regularly with the guidance of the Assistant Manager and Senior Manager, Community Engagement.
6. Travel to other locations for conferences, meetings, retreats, workshops, and other events as necessary.

Reporting, Communications and Research (30%)
7. Support the development of Information Education Communication (IEC) material as per the context and need of the program for communities.
8. Identify and document case studies and success stories from the community for donors, media and public consumption.
9. Document content from the field through photographs, videos, dialogue and interviews with the communities and other stakeholders for the purpose of sharing the department’s work with the public.
10. Provide information and data towards the preparation of regular reports on the progress, achievements, and challenges with community perspective for donors, government stakeholders and media.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and experience
• Graduate degree in social sciences, humanities, communication, or development, or equivalent work experience required.
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in community work on social issues within the non-profit sector required.

Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
1. Can speak and understand Hindi, and preferably the local language of the project location.
2. Proven passion of working with communities.
3. Ability to read, understand and write in English is essential
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare narrative reports, case-studies, and content for IEC materials.
5. Strong negotiating skills
6. Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft office.
7. Ability to operate smart phones, tablets, laptops.
8. Knowledge on how to conduct research online on various subjects and keep updated about current issues, especially those related to street dogs and animal welfare in India.
9. Willing and able to travel domestically and if required, internationally.
10. Commitment to Humane World for Animals/India’s objectives and mainstream operating style
11. Ability to work under pressure as part of a team or independently.
