We run programmes in the remotest corners of India and urban areas in the areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Livelihood & Economic Wellbeing in order to facilitate quality education, healthcare and protection from harm and abuse and life-saving aid during emergencies to children.
 
ROLE PURPOSE
The Sports Coach will play a pivotal role in activating local sports infrastructure and executing grassroots-level sports programs for 9 designated intervention schools in Leh – Ladakh. Responsible for training children & youth (as per age specific guideline), the coach will build technical skills, foster inclusive participation (with a strong emphasis on girls and marginalized groups), ensure child safeguarding, and lead talent identification efforts for progression to district and UT-level pathways.
 
SCOPE OF ROLE
Scope: 
Providing support to field-level implementation of the project at intervention school level in Leh - Ladakh. Strengthening grassroots talent identification and trainings of young children in the sports category of Archery, football and athletes.

KEY DELIVERABLES
  • Conduct regular, structured training sessions in the assigned sports category (Football, Archery, or Long-Distance Running) for intervention schools.
  • Adapt training modules to suit high-altitude conditions and age-appropriate physical development
  • Utilize, manage, and maintain essential sports kits and equipment provided to schools.
  • Ensure maximum and inclusive participation of children, actively removing barriers for girls and youth from underserved communities.
  • Conduct practical capacity-building sessions for Physical Education Teachers (PETs), local coaches, and community volunteers to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Integrate child protection, safety standards, and inclusive coaching methodologies into all training sessions.
  • Assist the Programme Coordinator in organizing school and community-level events to raise awareness regarding physical and mental well-being through sports.
  • Engage with parents, local community leaders, and school staff to encourage regular attendance and support for young athletes
  • Implement structured talent identification metrics and conduct trials/events at the school, district, and UT levels in coordination with the District Youth Services and Sports Department.
  • Provide advanced training, mentorship, and preparation for promising young talent selected to move up into higher-level competitions and training camps.
  • Maintain accurate tracking records of student participation, physical fitness metrics, skill progress, and attendance.
  • Identify and share success stories, youth achievements, and field-level insights to support project review, scaling, and media visibility.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
 
Educational Background
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education (B.P.Ed) or Diploma in Sports Coaching from a recognized institute is strongly preferred.
  • Specialized Certification: Level 1/2 Coaching Certification or equivalent license in Football, Archery, or Athletics/Long-Distance Running from a recognized sports federation.
 
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Relevant Experience:
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in grassroots sports coaching, school sports programs, or athletic development.
  • Prior experience working in high-altitude regions (preferably Ladakh) or remote/rural communities is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with children & youth and conducting talent identification trials.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Technical competencies
  • Sports-Specific Expertise: Advanced knowledge of technical drills, rules, tactical plays, and physical conditioning relevant to Football, Archery, or Athletics.
  • Grassroots Talent Identification: Capability to systematically evaluate and spot sporting potential using standardized physical and technical metrics.
  • Inclusive & Safe Coaching: Deep understanding of child protection protocols, age-appropriate physical training, gender inclusion, and positive behavior management.
  • Adaptability & High-Altitude Fitness: Physical capability to travel extensively and conduct field activities in challenging terrain and cold climatic conditions
  • Communication & Community Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage and build trust with school authorities, PETs, parents, and local youth.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Ladakhi/Bhoti and Hindi is required; basic working knowledge of English is an asset.
