About the Project
MAMTA, in collaboration with JSI under TIFA (Tuberculosis Implementation Framework Agreement), is implementing a project to strengthen the integration of Tuberculosis (TB) screening, diagnosis, treatment, and care within maternal health services for pregnant women across selected districts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam. The project addresses the persistent gap in TB detection and treatment among this vulnerable population by embedding comprehensive TB services within existing antenatal care (ANC) platforms. Working closely with the Central TB Division, National Health Mission, State TB Divisions, district health authorities, frontline health workers, and private healthcare providers, the initiative strengthens systematic screening, referral mechanisms, treatment initiation, and continuity of care. Through the implementation and documentation of practical, scalable, and sustainable service-delivery models, the project generates evidence and best practices to support wider adoption and institutionalization of integrated TB–maternal health services within government health systems.

Purpose of the Role
The Block Coordinator is the project's frontline, service-delivery role at the block (sub-district) level. Working daily in the field, the position ensures that every pregnant woman attending antenatal care at block facilities is screened for TB, that presumptive cases reach diagnosis, that confirmed cases start and continue treatment, and that frontline workers are supported at the point of care. This is a hands-on community and facility role — the closest point to the patient — and the primary driver of the project's screening, diagnosis, and treatment results in the block.

Key Responsibilities
1. Drive TB Screening of Pregnant Women at the Block (core anchor)
• Ensure every pregnant woman attending ANC at block facilities (PHCs, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, sub-centres/HWCs) is systematically screened for TB at each ANC contact, supporting ANMs and ASHAs at the point of care.
• Maintain a daily field presence across block facilities and ANC sessions / Village Health, Sanitation and Nutrition Days (VHSND) to keep screening routine and consistent.
2. Ensure Diagnostic Linkage and Sample Transport
• Track every presumptive TB case identified in the block through to diagnosis (sputum microscopy / CBNAAT), and ensure 100% of collected samples are transported from block facilities to the designated diagnostic centre with documented lab acknowledgment.
• Follow up to ensure diagnostic results return to the facility and the pregnant woman without delay.
3. Secure Treatment Initiation and Continuity of Care
• Ensure confirmed cases are initiated on treatment promptly and conduct community and home follow-up to support adherence and continuity of care throughout pregnancy.
• Trace and re-engage any pregnant woman who misses diagnosis, treatment initiation, or follow-up, so none is lost across the cascade.
4. Support Frontline Health Workers On the Job (no venue-based training)
• Work alongside ANMs, ASHAs, and staff nurses during routine ANC and field activities, providing hands-on coaching on screening, referral, sample collection, and patient counselling.
• Identify gaps at the point of care and give immediate, practical, on-the-spot support using job aids and the mobile screening tool, rather than venue-based workshops.
5. Mobilize the Community (low/no cost)
• Engage Panchayati Raj Institutions, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, self-help groups, and community leaders to raise awareness of TB risk in pregnancy and encourage screening, using government or free spaces and avoiding venue, travel, and meal costs.
• Strengthen referral linkages with block-level public facilities and any private maternity providers operating in the block.
6. Coordinate with Block-Level Government
• Coordinate routinely with the Block Medical Officer, Block Programme Manager, and Tuberculosis Unit (TU) staff (STS/STLS) to align field activity with the block's NTEP and ANC schedule and review progress.
7. Record Data Accurately at Source
• Maintain accurate screening logs and ensure timely, complete, and correct entry of block-level data into project tools, Nikshay, and ANC/MCP records, and report progress to the District Coordinator.
8. Additional Responsibilities
• Undertake any other reasonable task assigned by the District Coordinator or project leadership in support of project objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
• Graduate (Bachelor's) degree in any discipline; a background in social work, nursing, life sciences, or a health-related field is preferred.
Experience
• Minimum 1–3 years of field experience in community health, TB, or maternal and child health programmes, preferably with an NGO at the block or community level.
• Hands-on experience working directly with frontline workers (ASHAs, ANMs) and communities for screening, referral, or follow-up.
• Familiarity with the local block geography, public health facilities, and community structures is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
• Basic understanding of TB symptoms, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, and of TB risk in pregnancy (training will be provided).
• Strong field and interpersonal skills for community mobilization and for supporting frontline health workers at the point of care.
• Ability to maintain accurate screening logs and enter data correctly into mobile/digital tools, Nikshay, and ANC/MCP records.
• Comfortable with on-the-job coaching, household follow-up, and conducting low/no-cost community awareness activities.
• Basic competency in a smartphone, data-entry apps, and MS Office.
• Fluency in the local state language is essential (Hindi for Rajasthan/Uttar Pradesh; Assamese and locally relevant languages for Assam); experience with tribal and marginalized communities is desirable.
Other Requirements
• Must own an Android smartphone and a two-wheeler with a valid driving licence.
• Must be willing to be based in the assigned block and to travel daily to villages and facilities within the block.
