Position Overview:
 
Reporting to the Director, Accounting, the Manager, Accounting plays a key role in ensuring effective, accurate, and compliant financial processes across Room to Read while adhering to organizational policies, internal controls, and US GAAP. The position manages one direct report and is responsible for revenue recognition, accounting and reconciliations, financial reporting, compliance and control activities, audit support, financial systems administration, and driving technology-enabled initiatives to improve reporting and operational efficiency.
 
Based in the New Delhi office, the Manager, Accounting works closely with Finance and accounting team members in both New Delhi and San Francisco, while partnering with cross-functional teams across the organization globally. 
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
 
Financial Reporting & Accounting 
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP and applicable accounting requirements for nonprofit entities including revenue recognition and donor restriction tracking.
  • Ensure timely month-end close, revenue reconciliations, and payment processing for designated entities
  • Review supporting documentation for contributions, pledges and grants to ensure compliance with accounting policies.
  • Prepare and analyse monthly consolidated financial statements, cash flow statements, supporting schedules, and management report.
  • Support preparation of annual financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Manage lease accounting activities, reconciliations, and related disclosures.
  • Support annual consolidated financial statement preparation, Form 990, and other tax and regulatory filings. 
Audit, Compliance & Controls 
  • Support the annual consolidated audit and lead statutory audits of designated entities.
  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and support compliance, regulatory filings, donor reporting requirements, and internal policy initiatives. 
Systems, Technology & Process Improvement 
  • Serve as an administrator and subject matter expert for finance systems, providing user support, governance, troubleshooting, and enhancement recommendations. Lead technology, automation, and AI-enabled initiatives to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and system integration.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, workflows, and best practices 
Leadership & Collaboration 
  • Supervise and develop team member.
  • Build effective partnerships with cross-functional teams globally and with country offices.
  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
 
Required:
  • Chartered Accountant with a minimum of 7-8 progressive accounting experience, preferably including nonprofit or international organization experience.
  • Strong knowledge of USGAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close processes, and consolidations.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced global environment.
  • Experience working with cloud-based ERP systems and advanced excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with remote and globally distributed teams.
  • Flexibility to participate in early morning and late evening meetings when required to support global operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Passion for leveraging technology, automation, data analytics, and AI-driven tools to improve finance processes and reporting. 
Preferred:
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce.
  • Experience leading system implementations, finance transformation projects, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, audit processes, and risk management.
  • Prior experience supervising, mentoring, and developing team members.
