About the Organization
1. Background of Manav Vikas Sansthan Khairi (MVSK)
The journey of Manav Vikas Sansthan Khairi (MVSK) began not with the establishment of an organization, but with a profound commitment to social justice and human dignity. During the Kamla Embankment movement (1995–96), Mr. Sunil Kumar worked closely with marginalized communities affected by land dispossession, recurrent floods, and systemic social exclusion. These experiences revealed that poverty extends far beyond economic deprivation—it is fundamentally the denial of rights, opportunities, education, health, participation, and human dignity. Recognizing that sustainable transformation requires empowered communities rather than temporary relief, he envisioned an institution that would enable vulnerable people to become architects of their own development. This vision culminated in the establishment of Manav Vikas Sansthan Khairi (MVSK), a grassroots organization dedicated to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and resilient society.
Over the past two decades, MVSK has evolved into a trusted development organization implementing integrated, community-centred programmes across Bihar. The organization works across the thematic areas of education, women's empowerment, health and nutrition, WASH, sustainable livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, child protection, and institutional strengthening. At the heart of MVSK's development philosophy lies the conviction that sustainable progress can only be achieved when communities themselves lead the process of change. By strengthening Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), local governance structures, and grassroots leadership, MVSK nurtures resilient communities capable of addressing their own social, economic, and environmental challenges while ensuring that development remains inclusive, locally owned, and sustainable.
Today, MVSK serves as a catalyst for transformative social change by partnering with communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, and international development agencies to advance inclusive and sustainable development. Guided by the principles of human dignity, equity, participation, resilience, and social justice, the organization is committed to creating an enabling environment where every woman, child, youth, person with disability, and marginalized family has the opportunity to realize their full potential. For MVSK, development is not merely the delivery of services—it is the process of empowering individuals and communities to claim their rights, strengthen their capacities, and build a future founded on dignity, equality, and shared prosperity.
Manav Vikas Sansthan Khairi registered under Society registration Act under section 21, 1860 having registration number 742, and also registered in FCRA no. 031290106
2. Approach of the Organization
MVSK adopts a people-centred, community-led, and resilience-driven development approach that places human dignity, equity, inclusion, and sustainability at the heart of every intervention. The organization believes that meaningful and lasting development is achieved not by delivering solutions to communities, but by strengthening their capacities to identify priorities, mobilize local resources, and lead their own development journey. By investing in local leadership, institutional strengthening, and community ownership, MVSK transforms vulnerability into resilience and dependence into self-reliance.
Recognizing that poverty is multidimensional, MVSK implements an integrated development framework that interconnects education, child protection, women's empowerment, health and nutrition, WASH, sustainable livelihoods, disaster resilience, climate adaptation, and institutional development. Through the strengthening of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and strategic partnerships, the organization builds resilient local institutions capable of sustaining inclusive development beyond project lifecycles while ensuring that no one is left behind.
MVSK's development philosophy is founded on a simple yet enduring belief: sustainable transformation occurs when communities possess the knowledge, confidence, institutional capacity, and collective leadership to shape their own future with dignity, resilience, and shared prosperity.
