You will come with 
  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine with Masters in Paediatrics/Preventive and Social Medicine/Community Medicine/Public Health; with at least 4- 5 years’ experience in programming in public health & nutrition with experience of working with Government.
  • Broad knowledge of nutrition including micronutrient and related interventions and health systems in India.
  • Strong Project management and administration skills. And should be familiar with the monitoring systems in public health programmes.
  • Language Skills - English and Hindi, both oral and written. Good writing skills in English is a pre-requisite. Knowledge of Gujarati will be an advantage.  

About the role 

The State Program Officer will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the state government (Health and ICDS) and ensuring successful implementation of Maternal and Newborn programs. The position will play a dual role in providing technical assistance, and project and financial management for the assigned projects. In this role you will be responsible to:
  • Support the Country Office and State Program Representative (SPR) in the development of new projects and pre-contracting process (TOR, budget planning, etc).
  • Responsible for the development of state specific project implementation work plans, and implementation of projects under maternal, newborn and child survival in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide support to the SPR in state level advocacy, managing relations with external stakeholders (implementing partners, government departments, academic institutions, non-government organisations, etc) and facilitate roll out of NI supported projects in the state.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the state government (Department of Health and Family Welfare and Women and Child Development) for implementation of NI supported programs as approved under the NI India country plan.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the implementing partners and project team members to ensure timely state and district level planning and optimal quality of project implementation.
  • Manages project documentation/evaluation/implementation research/ study at the state level with inputs from SPR and Country Office.
  • Disseminate project monitoring and study findings with key state government officials and other stakeholders. Identify opportunities for policy dialogue through engagement with state level experts, professional associations and publications.
  • Support the Country Office in budget planning, and responsible for state level monitoring and reporting of project budgets under maternal, newborn and child survival.
  • Responsible for supervising the work of the implementing partner project team members, including overseeing the development of work plans, assessment of training needs, and other human resource requirements such as supporting implementing partner in hiring of consultants/project team members.
