About the Program
Organisation is working closely with the MoHFW to strengthen the national nutrition programme, including support for the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Abhiyaan. The programme provides technical and analytical support for planning, implementation, monitoring, capacity strengthening, communication, and evidence generation. Under the guidance of MoHFW, and in collaboration with partners and technical institutions, it strengthens programme governance, promotes data-driven decision-making, and supports progress towards national anaemia reduction targets.
About the Position
The Research Officer will support the planning and implementation of evaluation, research, and learning initiatives for the nutrition programs including Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. The incumbent is expected to support research and assessment activities, data analysis, documentation of programme results and learning, and development of evidence products to inform programme planning and decision-making.
The position reports to the Country Lead, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research (MER). The role will work closely with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Nutrition Division, Program Manager/National Program Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation team, technical advisors, state governments, development partners, and other key stakeholders.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Support the development and implementation of the research and learning agenda and evidence-generation activities for the AMB Abhiyaan under the guidance of the supervisor, and in coordination with concerned program teams.
• Design studies/evaluations/ rapids assessments, draft research protocols/determination request forms and develop data collection tools, with support of concerned program staff and in coordination with external evaluators or partners (as required).
• Support in obtaining required regulatory and ethical approvals for conducting studies/evaluations/assessments.
• Conduct and/or support quantitative and qualitative data collection and ensure data quality through appropriate quality assurance mechanisms.
• Support analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data to generate actionable insights on programme implementation, performance, gaps, and outcomes.
• Support documentation of programme results, implementation processes, best practices, innovations, lessons learned, and success stories for learning and dissemination.
• Support the development of research reports, analytical briefs, programme fact sheets, technical documents, presentations, manuscripts, abstracts, and other evidence products.
• Support teams in preparing and submitting abstracts and other scientific outputs for relevant conferences, meetings, and knowledge-sharing platforms.
• Collaborate closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to support approved MEL plans, monitoring systems, data management, and evidence generation for programme decision-making.
• Support data quality assurance through regular review of programme data and field visits, identify implementation gaps, and recommend appropriate adaptations and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with the digital and M&E teams to strengthen data systems, digital platforms, and management information systems used for programme monitoring and evidence generation.
• Maintain relevant research documentation/ determination, study records, literature repositories, and research/assessment materials as required.
• Ensure appropriate attention to data security, privacy, ethical requirements, and applicable approvals for research and assessment activities.
• Liaise with MoHFW, state governments, technical institutions, development partners, consultants, and other stakeholders to support research, assessment, documentation, and learning activities.
• Support in synthesizing leanings from program implementation utilizing secondary data, program data and evaluation data.
• Support in building capacities of team members in scientific writing and submitting abstracts to scientific conferences and meetings.
• Undertake field visits to priority states/districts as required for rapid assessments, data collection, programme reviews, documentation, and technical support.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to achieve programme goals.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s in health background, with Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or statistics.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience of working with an international/national public health organization or academic institute, experience particularly in the field of evaluation and research.
• Existing publications in international peer reviewed journals, presentations at international public health related conferences of repute.
• Understanding of global health, India’s public health structures and functions, and development approaches with willingness to learn.
• Prior experience in Comprehensive Primary Healthcare or Nursing/Midwifery programs will be an added advantage.
• Prior experience in economic evaluation/health technology assessments will be an added advantage.
Skills
• Good analytical and scientific writing skills.
• Ability to analyse quantitative data using standard software like SPSS/STATA/R. Ability to use qualitative data analysis software will be an added advantage.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Comfortable with working in a multicultural team.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi are required. Proficiency in writing and editing reports and documents.
• Ability to develop productive working relationships with other agencies, stakeholders and other organizations.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to travel as needed.
