Vatsalya is a not-for-profit organisation established in 1995 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, by Dr. Neelam Singh, a gynaecologist, initially focusing on the enforcement of India’s Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act. Over three decades, Vatsalya has evolved into a multi-sectoral organisation working towards the health, education, protection and empowerment of women, adolescents and children.
Headquartered in Lucknow, Vatsalya implements community-based programmes across multiple locations, including Lucknow, Barabanki, Sitapur, Deoria and Datia. Through its grassroots engagement and collaborative approach, the organisation works to strengthen community well-being and promote access to essential services and opportunities for vulnerable populations.
About the Internship
Vatsalya invites applications from motivated students and recent graduates interested in gaining practical experience in the development sector. Interns will work alongside programme teams and participate in community-based interventions, field research, awareness activities and programme documentation.
Interns may be placed in Lucknow, Barabanki, Balrampur, Sitapur or Deoria, depending on programme requirements and the candidate’s preferred location.
Internship Focus Areas
• Maternal, Newborn and Adolescent Health: Community health awareness and outreach.
• Adolescent Girl Empowerment: Leadership development, capacity building and life skills.
• Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Health awareness, screening support and lifestyle education.
• Sexual and Reproductive Health: Community education and awareness.
• HIV/AIDS Awareness: Prevention education and community outreach.
• Adult Literacy: Basic literacy and functional learning initiatives.
• Digital Literacy: Digital skills development and technology awareness.
Key Responsibilities
• Programme Support: Assist in organising community awareness campaigns, training sessions, workshops and other programme activities.
• Field Research and Monitoring: Support baseline surveys, data collection, community assessments and field monitoring.
• Community Engagement: Coordinate with community members, local leaders, frontline workers and other stakeholders.
• IEC Material Development: Assist in preparing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials and awareness tools.
• Documentation and Reporting: Prepare field visit reports, monthly activity briefs, meeting notes, case studies and programme documentation.
• Data Management: Assist in compiling, organising and maintaining programme data and survey records while ensuring confidentiality.
Eligibility and Required Skills
• Students pursuing or candidates who have completed graduation or post-graduation in Social Work (BSW/MSW), Public Health, Sociology, Development Studies or related disciplines.
• Genuine interest in community development, public health and social sector initiatives.
• Good communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency in Hindi for community interaction and field-level activities.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel, are desirable.
• Willingness to undertake field visits and participate in community-level activities.
