ABOUT SNEHA
SNEHA (Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action) is a Mumbai-based non-profit organisation working to improve the health, nutrition and safety of women and children in vulnerable urban communities through community engagement and partnerships with public health systems.

Key Programmes: Maternal and Child Health, EHSAS, Prevention of Violence against Women and Children, Public System Partnership and Palliative Care.

Between 2016 and 2025, SNEHA directly reached over 620,555 people and indirectly impacted 3.63 million people across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
SNEHA’s AAHAR Programme works to reduce malnutrition and improve maternal and child health by strengthening community awareness, participation and access to ICDS and public healthcare services. It also builds the capacity of frontline workers and community volunteers.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Aahar Sahyog Programme focuses on improving maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition in vulnerable areas of Dharavi, covering approximately 13,000 households and a population of 65,000. The programme promotes community participation through volunteers and Community Action Groups (CAGs), while strengthening coordination with ICDS and public healthcare systems to improve health outcomes and reduce malnutrition.

PROFILE SNAPSHOT
Designation: Community Organizer

Location: Dharavi

Education: Minimum HSC pass

Experience: 2–5 years in the social sector, preferably in maternal and child health, health or nutrition. Freshers with relevant volunteer experience may also apply.

Reports to: Programme Officer

Key Focus: Community mobilisation, anthropometry, maternal and child health, nutrition and volunteer engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct home visits and anthropometry of children aged 0–2 years.
2. Identify malnourished children and facilitate referrals and follow-ups.
3. Counsel parents and women on child nutrition, maternal health and family planning.
4. Support early pregnancy registration and referrals for pregnant and lactating women.
5. Identify and refer cases of domestic violence.
6. Coordinate with Anganwadi Sevikas, ASHA workers, ICDS and community stakeholders.
7. Mobilise and support community volunteers and Community Action Groups (CAGs).
8. Maintain beneficiary records on CommCare and prepare case stories and activity reports.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
1. Experience in community mobilisation and social sector interventions.
2. Knowledge of child health, nutrition, maternal health and family planning.
3. Familiarity with government systems and social protection schemes.
4. Good communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to work in a team; Marathi and Hindi preferred.
