WASSAN (Watershed Support Services and Activities Network), Hyderabad is a network-based organization focusing on improving the quality of mainstream programs in natural resources management and livelihoods. It actively engages in policy advocacy initiatives at the State and National levels, particularly related to rainfed agriculture and rural livelihoods. WASSAN has contributed significantly to the development of watershed policies in various states and at the Government of India level. The organization also works with partners across several states as part of the Revitalizing Rainfed Agriculture (RRA) Network. Under the Shree Anna Abhiyan, WASSAN supports initiatives for the promotion of millets through production enhancement, value addition, enterprise development, nutrition integration, and market linkages.
Objectives of the Internship:

o To involve youth in promoting cultivation, processing, and consumption of millets.
o To provide practical exposure to agricultural development, nutrition programs, and rural entrepreneurship.
o To generate case studies, success stories, and documentation highlighting the field-level progress of Shree Anna Abhiyan.
o To strengthen millet-based enterprises through market research, value addition, and consumer awareness.
o To create a pool of trained youth who can support future agricultural and livelihood interventions in Angul district.
(a) Agenda of Livelihood Assessment of Millet-Based Enterprises:

o Study existing millet-based enterprises operated by Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the Angul district.
o Assess the livelihood impact of millet enterprises on farmers, women entrepreneurs, and local communities.
o Identify key challenges, capacity gaps, and support requirements for strengthening millet-based enterprises.
o Document best practices, case studies, and success stories of enterprises engaged in millet processing and marketing.
o Interact with stakeholders, including SHGs, FPOs, farmers, and program teams for gathering field insights.
o Prepare short analytical reports with recommendations for strengthening livelihood opportunities through millets.
Desired Candidate Profile:

o Candidate pursuing or completed Postgraduate / Graduate degree in Agriculture & Allied Sciences / Rural Development / Social Work / Anthropology or related disciplines.

o Strong field engagement, documentation, and analytical skills.
o Proficiency in MS Office and Google Workspace tools.
(b) Agenda of Baseline for Millet Inclusion in ICDS:

o Conduct a baseline study on the inclusion of millet-based food items in ICDS centres and SSD hostels.
o Examine the importance and nutritional benefits of Ragi Ladoo and other millet-based meals.
o Interact with Anganwadi workers, SHGs, beneficiaries, and programme stakeholders to understand implementation practices.
o Assess awareness levels regarding millet-based nutrition among beneficiaries and frontline workers.
o Identify gaps in supply chain, preparation practices, and awareness related to millet-based nutrition interventions.
o Document findings and provide recommendations for strengthening millet-based nutrition initiatives.
Desired Candidate Profile:

(c) Agenda of Market Potential & Consumer Preference Survey:

o Conduct surveys to understand consumer awareness, preferences, and demand for millet products in rural and urban markets of Angul district.
o Identify market opportunities, branding potential, and consumer behaviour trends related to millet products.
o Interact with local retailers, markets, consumers, and millet entrepreneurs to gather market insights.
o Support the programme team in identifying opportunities for product positioning, awareness campaigns, and market expansion.
o Analyse the collected data and prepare recommendations for scaling up millet-based products.
o Assist in organizing awareness activities and promotional events related to millet consumption.

(d) Agenda of Role of FPOs in Millet Promotion:

o Study the business operations and organizational structure of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) engaged in millet value chains.
o Analyse the role of FPOs in production, aggregation, processing, and marketing of millets.
o Identify operational challenges, opportunities, and support requirements for strengthening FPOs.
o Examine possible business models, partnerships, and policy linkages that can support millet value chain development.
o Interact with FPO leaders, farmers, and programme stakeholders for data collection and insights.
o Document findings and suggest recommendations for improving the sustainability of FPO-led millet initiatives.
