About WASH Institute
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute), established in 2008, is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India and the neighbouring countries. WASH Institute aims to build the capacities of the sector through programs that provide a) training and academic courses, b) technical advisory and consultancy services, and c) grass roots community WASH programs.
WASH Institute has been conducting extensive training programs for government functionaries, private sector professionals, NGOs, and other practitioners with the objective of effective WASH implementation across the country. In addition, our academic campus offers Diploma and Masters level courses in sanitation, under affiliation to a leading university.
As part of our WASH Advisory program, we provide PMU services to central, state, and local governments in both urban and rural areas to support implementation of SBM, JJM, and AMRUT schemes. Our community WASH programs are currently ongoing in 15 locations across 8 states and 1 Union Territory in India.
We are a multi-disciplinary team that tackle complex multi-faceted problems of behaviour change, quality of service, and sustainability of WASH interventions. We are looking for experienced professionals to work with us towards our visions of “a world where all the communities have access to safe, protected and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services, with improved hygiene practices”.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
The Key roles and responsibilities of the Technical Officer are as follows:
• Planning and designing the community/school toilet construction/renovation plans in discussion with the community, school authority and children.
• Providing technical support in Implementing the construction related works in both schools & communities.
• Coordinate with the contractor, masons on the plan/designs/estimated and about construction techniques/procedures for proper implementation of planned work.
• Assist and Monitor the contractor, masons in foundation marking/setting up foundation for all new construction plans.
• Undertake regular field visits to construction sites for appropriate programme monitoring on daily basis with special focus on quality work. This requires critical assessment and verification on the implementing activities with actual plan of work and provided necessary technical support and guidance, if required, for proper implementation.
• Undertake construction quality check in respect to quality of material used, foundation depth, mortar mix ratio, concrete mix ratio, wall alignments, perfection with measurements, horizontal and vertical levels, slopes, parallel and perpendicular checks etc, and deployment of skilled mason to execute the work with the proper finishing.
• Assist the contractor and masons to follow and comply with provided/recommended specifications for constructions
• Prepare technical drawings and estimates for any construction work as and when required (in consultation with the Technical Expert of WASH Institute).
• Prepare and submit Plan of Action and accomplishment report to the line manager on a monthly/quarterly basis.
• Support the line manager to monitor and review the progress of the project and effectively act to meet necessary requirements related to the programme goals and objectives.
• Support the reporting line manager to accomplish the urgent assignments if any.
Preferred Qualification and Experience
• B.E. / B. Tech / DCE in Civil Engineering from reputed institute.
• Work experience required: Minimum five years’ experience in construction work; preferably the construction of water-sanitation facilities in school viz. construction of School sanitary block , hand washing station, drinking water station etc.
• Good writing skills, AutoCAD drawing, estimate preparation etc.
• Basic understanding of WASH sector; must have interest of working in the sector.
• Fluency in English is essential with regional languages (Bengali).
• Must have own two-wheeler with valid driving license
