About us:
Jan Sahas was founded in the year 2000 to ensure dignity for India’s most socially excluded communities. Since then, we have made significant contributions to support communities and shift systems to address forced labour, sexual violence (e.g., designed and piloted a nationally recognized model for survivor support centre), and manual scavenging (e.g., helped bring about landmark legislation to prohibit the practice and compensate victims).
Since 2012, we have been implementing our flagship Dignity First Initiative (formerly known as the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Children - PVAWC program). Our mission is ambitious: to eliminate sexual violence and uphold dignity. To date, this initiative has:
  • Provided comprehensive support to over 23,000 survivors of violence.
  • Offered mental health care to over 10,000 individuals.
  • Driven significant community transformation by challenging harmful social norms and increasing help-seeking behavior across 50 districts, with partnerships in 25 districts across eight states.
Role Purpose
To strengthen programme monitoring systems by integrating Management Information Systems with existing MEL functions, ensuring accurate, timely and actionable data for programme management, donor reporting, and decision-making.

The role will support development of monitoring formats, dashboards, reporting systems, field monitoring processes, and data quality mechanisms across programmes.

Core Responsibilities
  • Session & Activity Tracking-Design and maintain a simple tracking tools that tracks every session: planned date, actual date, location, facilitator, attendees, topics covered, sessions remaining.
  • Reporting Formats-Create fillable monitoring formats that field teams can actually use without confusion. Update formats based on field feedback.
  • Means of Verification- For every data point collected, define and ensure availability of MOV, e.g., attendance sheets, photos with captions, pre/post-tests, sign-in logs, session summaries, GPS-tagged check-ins. No data point is accepted without verifiable evidence.
  • Training & Support-Train all field staff on how to fill monitoring formats correctly and what MOV to collect for each activity. Provide ongoing handholding, not just one-time training.
  • Field Visits-Conduct regular field visits to verify that reported data matches reality (attendance sheets, session records, MOV documents). Spot-check for errors or missing evidence.
  • Data Quality & Timeliness- Run weekly checks on who has entered data and who hasn't. Follow up on missing or delayed entries. Flag inconsistencies between reported data and available MOV.
  • MIS-MEL Integration-Ensure that every MEL indicator has a reliable data source in the MIS. Make sure that when a session is marked "completed," it automatically updates target achievement and remaining session counts. Also ensure MOV is linked to each completed entry.
  • Progress Dashboards- Create simple, visual weekly reports for management showing: sessions completed vs planned, sessions remaining, project progress against targets, location-wise performance, and percentage of activities with complete MOV.
  • Other support- Providing other MIS related support as and when required by MEL team/Programme team.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Master's degree in Economics/Sociology/Social Work/Population Studies, or MCA preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in monitoring, data collection, MIS, or field coordination.
  • Proficient in MS Excel (formulas, filters, pivot tables, data validation, Vlook up) and Power Bi. Good knowledge of Google Forms and CAPI such as KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO.
  • Fluent in English and Hindi communication
  • Willing to travel to project locations 8–10 days per month.
