Type: Full Time (Project-based till March 2027)

Prerana is a civil society organisation established in 1986 to address intergenerational trafficking into the sex trade in Kamathipura, formerly Asia’s largest red-light district. Prerana is committed to ensuring optimum protection of children through a continuum of care approach that integrates child protection with anti-human trafficking interventions. Since its inception, Prerana’s pioneering efforts have supported victims across the entire cycle from prevention to rehabilitation and repatriation. Over nearly four decades, the organisation has addressed critical issues including sex trafficking, gender-based violence, child sexual abuse, and child protection, while contributing to policy-level changes
About the Project
Project Aashiyana operates under the Transform NEEV Collective, focusing on family strengthening, prevention of family- child separation, and promotion of community-based alternative care systems. It works with vulnerable communities in Mumbai Suburban and Thane districts, along with cross-state engagements to strengthen practice and systems.
Under the Healing Transitions segment, Prerana supports adolescent girls in institutional care through trauma-informed counselling, family strengthening, restoration planning, and safe deinstitutionalisation processes.
Context of the Role
The Case Worker will lead end-to-end management of deinstitutionalisation (DI) cases involving adolescent girls residing in Child Care Institutions (CCIs). The role requires close coordination with children, families, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), institutional staff, counsellors, probation officers, and inter-state stakeholders to ensure that restoration/reintegration decisions are safe, planned, child-centred, and sustainable.
The Case Worker will ensure that children are not prematurely restored to unsafe family environments and that every transition out of institutional care is supported through robust case planning, family assessments, documentation, and follow-up.
This is a high-intensity role requiring strong child protection knowledge, documentation skills, crisis response ability, and comfort navigating complex family situations.
Key Responsibilities
1) Case Management of DI Cases
- Manage a caseload of children identified for restoration, transfer, repurposing, foster care exploration, aftercare transition, or family reintegration.
- Conduct detailed intake and case assessments.
- Develop individualized care plans and transition plans.
- Track progress of each case from institutional placement to restoration/closure.
- Maintain regular case reviews.
- Identify high-risk cases requiring urgent intervention.
- Ensure children’s voices are incorporated into planning processes.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) / Psychology / Child Development / related field
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in Child protection, Institutional care, Juvenile Justice system, Family reintegration, Case management etc
- Strong understanding of child protection laws and systems, restoration protocols, Trauma Informed Care, documentation standard, etc.
- Comfort with regular field visits
- Ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders and geographies
- Strong organisational, planning, and follow-up skills
- Effective written and verbal communication

Salary
- Salary Range: INR 5,00,000 – INR 5,20,000 (June 2026- March 2027)
- Commensurate with qualifications and experience
