A. About GIZ India
B. Project Background
On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is implementing the global programme ‘Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains I Cotton, Tea and Spices’. (AgriChains).
The project in India is under the umbrella of global programme on sustainable supply chains comprising 11 commodities in 25+ countries across the globe. The objectives of the global programme are to promote sustainable production systems, sustainable supply chains, to promote local value addition, and facilitate global knowledge transfer on the identified commodities. The focus commodities are cotton, tea, spices and coffee.
The AgriChains programme is a part of the BMZ Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains Initiative (SASI), which works towards an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable transformation of global agricultural supply chains. To achieve this, SASI promotes sustainable practices in agriculture that contribute to greener, fairer, and more inclusive supply chains. This is done by collaboration with a wide, diverse, and international network of private sector and civil society partner organisations – ranging from small, innovation-driven players to major global companies and the German retail sector.
C. Responsibilities
- Technical support for the project implementation in accordance with the project goals and activities agreed with the partner and team agreements.
- Providing professional advice to partners and cooperation and communication with important stakeholders.
- Contributing to conceptual and strategic development of policy recommendations, project proposals and operational planning in close collaboration with the team and partners.
- Innovation and knowledge management, and communication of innovations to a broad target group.
- Coordination of workstreams of projects in all three commodities and expert knowledge exchange.
D. Core Scope of Tasks
Professional advisory services
- Supporting the project team in the overall implementation of the Indian commodity Hub of the global programme on "Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains I Cotton, Tea and Spices".
- Providing technical evaluation and advisory on creating replicable models on best practices on sustainable cotton, tea, spices and coffee.
- Ensuring linkage of the project components, farm and sustainable supply chain of cotton, tea, spices and coffee to pilot approaches and project implementation in close cooperation with the project partners.
- Providing technical guidance on project implementation on promotion of Extra Long Staple cotton in collaboration with partners under the project framework.
- Providing technical support across various state departments I ministries/ institutions/ textile and tea and spices brands/ relevant stakeholders to effectively meet the project-objective.
- Preparing terms of reference for various technical studies, undertaking technical review and quality assurance of technical deliverables from national and international consultancy teams and implementing partners.
- Supporting the monitoring of project results, and documentation and communication of project activities.
- Providing inputs for dissemination of various achievements / information on project/ initiatives
- / opportunities available under the programme.
- Organising knowledge and experience-sharing events and workshops with partners.
- Documentation of all proceedings including meetings, workshops and technical sessions and follow-up with stakeholders if required.
- Monitoring and technical guidance of contractors and ensuring coherent implementation of deliverables (incl. reporting).
Networking and cooperation
- Supporting the project in implementation in coordination with relevant partners.
- Assisting the project with all organisational and logistical issues.
- Supporting the implementation, monitoring and evaluation, communication and documentation of the project.
- Ensuring cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with partners; carrying out PR work and cooperating with local communities, relevant organisations, non-governmental agencies and individuals in the project/programme environment and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships.
- Stakeholder management and communication with internal and external cooperation partners in a national and international context, with special focus on farmers organisations, farming service providers, non-governmental agencies, research institutes and academia.
- Undertaking field visits in the project states regularly and traveling (abroad), in accordance with project requirements.
Knowledge management
- Planning, implementation and documentation of events.
- Documentation of best practices, project success stories and replicable models under the project.
Monitoring and evaluation
- Coordinating and monitoring of project results under the project framework with focus on cotton.
- Engagement with the partners for smooth coordination for data collection, processing and deciphering results.
- Finalising monitoring data and results in coordination with the project team, and its reporting to the project Steering Unit in GIZ Head Office, Germany.
- Responding to emerging data and information requirements from the technical team.
- Support in documentation and communication of project activities.
- Undertaking field visits in the project states regularly in accordance with project requirements.
Coordination tasks
- Maintaining a good flow of communication and information within GIZ thematic clusters, Indian and German partners and other stakeholders.
- Coordinating with respective stakeholders for assessing project-progress and monitoring impact.
Other duties/additional tasks, if any:
- The Advisor performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management.
E. Required Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
- Post graduate degree in an area that is related to business management/rural management/ project management and/or Natural Resource Management/ Agriculture/ Agricultural Supply Chains or related field.
- 10-15 years of experience in areas of consulting, project implementation, stakeholder management of diverse professional networks and / or international development.
- Good experience in working with international teams with a cooperative teamwork approach.
- Familiarity with reporting and M & E in international projects will be advantage.
- Very good working knowledge of IT technologies (e.g., MS Office).
- Fluent in English and Hindi, written and spoken (C1).
- Candidates with sectoral understanding of agriculture and its supply chains will be preferred.

G. Duration of the contract: 31st March 2027 (with possibility of extension)
