Job Title: Forestry Associate - Asha Forestry Project Project Location : Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar & Coochbehar Summary:
The Forestry Associate will support the implementation of agroforestry and plantation activities under carbon projects, ensuring high-quality field execution, data collection, and compliance with carbon standards. The role involves close coordination with Field Executives, GIS/MIS teams, and local communities to achieve plantation targets and support Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Implementation & Plantation Management
* Assist in execution of plantation and agroforestry activities as per project plans and technical guidelines
* Soil Map & Soil Structure wise species selection.
* Nursery - Saplings health monitoring.
* Support site preparation, pit digging, planting, and maintenance operations
* Monitor plant survival, growth performance, and overall plantation health
* Ensure proper species selection and plantation techniques to enhance carbon sequestration
* Conduct assessment and monitoring of pre-existing biomass and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) within project intervention areas as per carbon project protocols.
* Support field data collection, soil sampling, carbon stock documentation, and reporting for MRV and verification processes.
Field Coordination & Supervision
* Coordinate with Field Executives and Cluster Supervisor for smooth field operations
* Support supervision of daily activities and ensure adherence to project timelines
* Assist Cluster Supervisor in monitoring field performance and quality control
Quality Control of Plantation Plots
* Conduct regular field inspections to assess plant survival rate, growth performance, and overall health of plantation plots.
* Verify proper implementation of plantation protocols, including spacing, pit quality, species selection, and planting techniques.
* Monitor pest, disease, and weed management practices, ensuring timely corrective actions are taken.
* Maintain accurate records and reports, including geo-tagging, field data validation, and compliance with project standards.

Data Collection & MRV Support
* Collect field data related to plantation, survival rates, and growth parameters
* Support GPS-based plot mapping and geo-tagging activities
* Assist in maintaining records required for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV)
* Ensure accuracy and completeness of field data for reporting and audits

Carbon Project Compliance
* Support implementation of project activities in line with carbon standards such as Verra (VCS) methodology.
* Assist in documentation and preparation for internal and external carbon audits
* Help monitor risks such as grazing, fire, and carbon leakage
Qualification - Forestry Associate (Agroforestry Project)
* Bachelor's / Master's degree in Forestry or related field.
* Minimum 1 to 3 years of field experience in forestry, plantation, agroforestry, nursery management, or carbon projects preferred.
* Knowledge of plantation techniques, species identification, soil and water conservation, and community-based forestry activities.
* Basic understanding of GIS/GPS mapping, field data collection, and carbon project documentation will be an added advantage.
* Ability to work in remote field locations and coordinate with farmers, beneficiaries, and local stakeholders.
* Good communication, reporting, and documentation skills in local language and English preferred.
Salary Structure
* The salary for the Forestry Associate position will be determined based on the candidate's educational qualification, relevant field experience, technical skills, and overall suitability for the project requirements. Candidates having prior experience in forestry, agroforestry, carbon projects, GIS/GPS mapping, nursery management, and community coordination will be given preference.
