Engagement Type: Consultant – Monthly Retainer
Location: Tamil Nadu or Karnataka (Remote)
Education: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related disciplines.
Experience: 4–6 years of experience in social impact research, field research, or monitoring & evaluation.
Languages: English, Tamil, and Hindi (mandatory)
Travel: Regular travel across South Indian states
Position Overview
The role will involve regular engagement with workers in factories, implementation partners, and local stakeholders across South India, particularly within manufacturing and supply-chain-linked environments. The consultant should be comfortable navigating factory settings, conducting field visits independently, and interacting with workers, management teams, and community stakeholders. The role requires sensitivity and experience working with migrant worker communities and an understanding of the social, cultural, and workplace realities of factory workers in India.
Key Responsibilities
Field Research & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support the design and contextualisation of research tools, surveys, and discussion guides.
- Support translation and adaptation of tools in local languages.
- Conduct field visits, interviews, FGDs, and stakeholder consultations across project locations.
- Engage with factory representatives, workers, NGO partners, and community stakeholders.
- Manage and monitor field data collection processes while ensuring data quality, ethical practices, and adherence to timelines.
Data, Analysis & Reporting
- Support quantitative and qualitative analysis of field data.
- Contribute to reports, presentations, and insight notes.
- Translate field findings into practical recommendations for clients and partners.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with internal teams, implementation partners, and client representatives.
- Maintain regular communication and updates across stakeholders. \
- Support smooth execution of M&E activities across multiple project locations and teams.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with migrant worker communities, worker wellbeing programs, labour-intensive sectors, or factory-linked CSR initiatives will be a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with labour rights, worker engagement, social compliance, or community-facing CSR programs is preferred.
- Prior experience in sectors such as livelihoods, skilling, public health, gender, or education is desirable.
Skills & Requirements
- Strong field engagement and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently across multiple locations.
- Experience with digital data collection tools such as SurveyCTO, Kobo, or ODK.
- Proficiency in English, Tamil, and Hindi is mandatory.
- Extensive travel across South India will be required.
Engagement Terms
- Monthly retainer arrangement with 4th Wheel Social Impact.
- Approximately 15 working days per month.
- Travel and project-related expenses reimbursed as per organisational policy.
Remuneration
Monthly retainer in the range of Rs 70,000–80,000, commensurate with experience and fit (standard deductions apply).
