About Prerana
Prerana is a civil society organisation established in 1986 to address intergenerational trafficking into the sex trade in Kamathipura, formerly Asia’s largest red-light district. Prerana is committed to ensuring optimum protection of children through a continuum of care approach that integrates child protection with anti-human trafficking interventions. Since its inception, Prerana’s pioneering efforts have supported victims across the entire cycle from prevention to rehabilitation and repatriation. Over nearly four decades, the organisation has addressed critical issues including sex trafficking, gender-based violence, child sexual abuse, and child protection, while contributing to policy-level changes
About the Project
Project Aashiyana operates under the Transform NEEV Collective, focusing on family strengthening, prevention of family- child separation, and promotion of community-based alternative care systems. It works with vulnerable communities in Mumbai Suburban and Thane districts, along with cross-state engagements to strengthen practice and systems.
The project is currently in an extended phase with confirmed timelines up to February 2027 and includes multi-state coordination, consultations, and structured stakeholder engagement.
Context of the Role
The Knowledge and Communications Associate will be responsible for capturing project learnings, documenting field experiences, managing internal knowledge systems, and supporting external communications related to Project Aashiyana.
The role requires someone who can translate field realities into clear, compelling, and accurate documentation products for diverse audiences including donors, partners, government stakeholders, and the broader child protection ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
1. Documentation and Knowledge Management
- Document field processes, case studies, project learnings, and best practices emerging from implementation
- Develop case narratives, impact stories, and human-interest stories while ensuring ethical documentation practices
- Maintain organised repositories of reports, consultation outputs, learning documents, and project resources
- Support creation of monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports
- Compile documentation from field teams and partner organisations for internal and donor reporting
2. Communications and Content Development
- Create communication materials such as newsletters, blogs, website content, brochures, and social media content
- Develop communication products to showcase project learnings, events, and milestones
- Support dissemination of reports, research outputs, and consultation findings
- Coordinate with design teams/vendors for development of communication materials where needed
- Ensure consistency in messaging across external communication platforms
3. Event and Consultation Documentation
- Document consultations, workshops, meetings, and stakeholder engagements through detailed notes and summary reports
- Capture key recommendations, insights, and action points from state and regional consultations
- Support creation of post-event communication materials including briefs, summaries, and presentations
- Coordinate collection of photographs, testimonials, and relevant communication assets from events
4. Research and Content Support
- Track developments in child protection, family strengthening, alternative care, and Juvenile Justice systems
- Support literature reviews, background notes, and policy briefs when required
- Assist in drafting concept notes, presentations, and knowledge products for advocacy efforts
5. Internal Coordination
- Work closely with programme teams to understand field implementation and document emerging learnings
- Coordinate with leadership and fundraising teams for communication requirements
- Support cross-team collaboration to ensure timely documentation outputs
Required Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, or related fields
- Minimum 2–4 years of experience in child protection and documentation within the social/development sector. Understanding of the Juvenile Justice system and family-based care ecosystem is mandatory
- Strong writing and editing skills in English
- Ability to simplify complex programme learnings into accessible content
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with documentation ethics, especially while working with vulnerable children and families
Preferred Competencies
- Prior experience in gender or development sector communications
- Experience in photography, social media management, or basic design tools is an added advantage
Salary
- Annual Salary Range: Rs.4,50,000 – Rs.6,00,000
- Commensurate with qualifications and experience
