LIGHTHOUSE ACADEMY OF STORYTELLING
Job Description — Crew Lead

ABOUT LIGHTHOUSE
Lighthouse is a Goa-based storytelling-focussed social purpose
organisation that believes in the power of stories to change lives.
The Lighthouse Academy of Storytelling (LAOS) is a 6-month residential
media training programme for young adults (18–25) from underserved
urban backgrounds. Our young adult crew members learn audio-visual
storytelling across three pillars: narrative writing, photography and
videography, and graphic design and video editing. The goal is simple,
ambitious and non-negotiable: by the time they leave, they are
employable in India's booming media and creative industries.
This year will be our first residential cohort. You would be building
it from the inside.
THE ROLE
This is a teaching-leading role.
The Crew Lead is the person in the room every day — running sessions,
supervising projects, pushing work to be better, and pulling out of a
dozen young people the creative confidence and craft they didn't know
they had. You own the academic and creative life of the Academy. You
decide how the curriculum gets delivered, when a brief needs to
change, which visiting faculty member is right for which moment, and
what standard of work is good enough to put in front of an industry
panel.
You are supported by the Academy's founder — who handles external
partnerships, fundraising, and outreach — and by a Programme Associate
who supports the daily logistics, scheduling, accommodation, and
meals. Everything that happens inside the Academy, creatively and
academically, is yours.
This is not a role for someone who wants to be adjacent to the
creative process. It is a role for someone who has lived inside it —

and is ready to make that the foundation of something that matters.
Full-time, on-site, Goa.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Teaching and creative supervision
— Lead the core sessions across all three pillars: narrative
storytelling, image storytelling, and design storytelling. You bring
expertise in at least one and working knowledge of all three.
— Translate the curriculum framework into actual sessions — briefs,
references, exercises, feedback structures. You decide what happens in
the room.
— Run project crits and reviews. Give feedback that is honest,
specific, and builds people up rather than flattening them.
— Track each crew member's creative development individually. Know
where they are, what they're struggling with, and what they need next.
— Identify and brief visiting faculty — working professionals from
film, journalism, advertising, photography, design — for guest
sessions. Prepare them, contextualise them for the crew, and integrate
their contributions into the wider programme arc.
Programme ownership
— Own the academic calendar and the creative arc of each fortnight.
Plan in advance, adapt in real time.
— Develop and refine project briefs — the two major individual and
collaborative projects that anchor the programme.
— Design and run the two key review panels: the solo project
presentation at the end of Month 3, and the industry-facing portfolio
showcase at the end of Month 6.
— Build the programme documentation as you go — what you teach, how
you teach it, what works. You are laying the ground for future
cohorts.
— Work closely with the Programme Associate, directing their support
of the academic programme while they handle the operational
infrastructure.

Creative culture
— Set the standard for what excellent work looks like — and hold it,
every day, without apology.
— Create an environment where the crew feel safe to take risks, make
bad work, and try again.
— Model what it looks like to be a working creative professional: the
discipline, the curiosity, the craft, the ability to take feedback.
— Help crew members understand not just how to make things, but why
storytelling from their backgrounds and with their voices matters —
and where it can take them.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience
— 4-6 years working in the media, creative industries or in education.
Film, journalism, documentary, advertising, photography, content, or
teaching— any combination of these. But you need to have made things.
You have worked to real briefs, real deadlines, real clients or
editors.
— Some experience of teaching, mentoring, or leading young people in a
creative context. This does not need to be formal — it could be
workshops, internship supervision, community work — but it needs to be
real. You have stood in front of a room of young people and held their
attention.
— Experience working with or alongside people from underserved
communities is a strong advantage. Not a requirement, but it changes
how you read the room in ways that matter here.

Who you are
— You have genuine craft. You care about the quality of the work — not
as an ego exercise, but because you believe it is the thing that will
open doors for these young people.
— You are ready to own something. You are not looking for a role where
someone else sets the direction and you execute it. You want to run
this — with support, not permission.
— You give feedback that lands. Honest, specific, and never unkind.
You have learned the difference between rigour and cruelty.
— You are curious about your students. You want to know who they are
and what they have to say — not just whether their shot is in focus.
— You are comfortable with the mess of a first cohort. Nothing will go
perfectly. You treat that as material, not failure.
— You understand that the industry experience you carry is valuable —
and that your job is to make it accessible, not to perform it.
— You are based in or willing to relocate to Goa. This is not a remote
role and it is not a commuter role. You need to be present.

On creative background
We are not looking for one specific discipline. A documentary
filmmaker, a journalist, a creative director, a photographer with a
strong editorial practice — or a teacher who has dabbled into artistic
practice with rigor. Any of these could be right. What matters is that
your practice is real, your standards are high, and you can translate
both into a teaching environment.

WHAT WE OFFER
— Full-time position, salary in the range of ? 65,000–? 75,000 per
month depending on experience
— Real ownership — you are not a cog in an institution, you are
building the institution

— The chance to work with a founding cohort in a programme designed to
change what the Indian creative industry looks like over the next
decade
— A close working relationship with the Academy's founder, and access
to the wider Lighthouse network
— Access to a remarkable set of creative neighbours — this side of Goa
is abuzz with people at cutting edge of creative practice
— If this works — and we intend it to — you grow with it

HOW TO APPLY
Send us two things:
1. A video of yourself (7-8 minutes) that answers this note
authentically: Creative teaching is tough. I know why.
2. A link to your work. Portfolio, reel, published writing, Instagram,
whatever best represents what you make and how you think. We want to
see the work before we read the CV.
Send to: beep@lighthousestudios.co
Subject line: Crew Lead
We will review applications on a rolling basis. No agencies please.
Lighthouse Academy of Storytelling is committed to building a team that
reflects the diversity of the crew we serve. We strongly encourage
applications from candidates who are from backgrounds underrepresented
in the creative industries.
