About Living Farms:
Living Farms is an initiative that promotes partnership engagement with communities to cultivate critical consciousness; develop the ability to objectivelyanalyse the root causes of the current crisis, the Adivasi peasants are confronted with. Living Farms putefforts to address immediate problems and also to enabling the Adivasis to respond to the challenges and help create linkages and solidarities between different local grassroots initiatives, academia, researchers, media, and the government, by fostering innovative dialogues in meaningful ways, valuing local and traditional knowledge and stimulate ethical action for their wellbeing and address ecological crisis. As an organization, Living Farms holds the abilities and wisdom of local communities, particularly women in high regard. Living Farms continually partners with the knowledge and wisdom holders to understand the underlying ethos in their perspectives. By simulating locally appropriate empowering solutions through action research and adopting or modifying successful mechanisms to address problems they have identified and with the intention to strengthen their capabilities, Living Farms is in a continual interface with the heritage and the wisdom holders to recognize and analyse the nature and causes of the problems that impact them and enable their preparedness to respond.
 
About the Program RICE:
The purpose of the project RICE (Resilience through Inclusive Climate adaptation and Empowerment) is to empower vulnerable rural families to improve their food security and dietary health through sustainable nutrition gardens. The communities face significant challenges in accessing nutritious food due to limited skills, knowledge, and climate-related risks. This project addresses these challenges trough targeted training in climate-adaptive subsistence farming and enhancing awareness of nutrition and dietary diversity. By equipping families with the tools, knowledge, and skills needed to manage their gardens and adapt to environmental changes, the project seeks to reduce severe food insecurity and malnutrition. Additionally, it aims to strengthen community resilience against the adverse effects of climate change, fostering long-term self-reliance and better health outcomes in vulnerable communities. By developing local capacity through seed banks and community climate alert system, it aims to strengthen community organization, enhance civil society, and promote collective action. Through community advocacy activities, the project will address gaps in existing government schemes related to the impact of climate change. It will especially focus on inclusion of subsistence farmers in insurance and adaption schemes.
 
The Objective of the RICE Program:
 
Objective 1:
By the end of the project, the families are cultivating nutrition gardens and experience a higher level of food security
Result 1.1- Families are aware of the positive impact of nutrition gardens and are motivated and skilled to cultivating their own garden.
Result 1.2- Families are harvesting and consuming a variety of different yields every month.
 
Objective 2:
By the end of the project, the community are more resilient in case of climate hazards, by having access to seedbanks, alert systems and govt. supported insurance
Result 2.1 - Community members are using the seed banks to diversify the yields of their gardens or to re-establish in case of hazards or unpredictable weather.
Result 2.2 - The farmer representatives are alerting communities prior to heavy rain, heat waves or other climate hazards, so the
Result 2.3- Stakeholders are promising to proceed with the development of further initiatives to support communities in case of climate hazards.
 
Objective of the Assignment:
 
The purpose of this assignment is to produce 2 high-quality short video films that:
 
1-short video film on the particular project achievement
  • Capture the key achievements, learnings and visible changes resulting from the RICE project.
  • Capture the actions taken by farmers, and their achievements towards their food and nutrition security by preparing nutrition garden
  • Creates an engaging communication tool for awareness, advocacy, and resource mobilisation.
  • 2-Short video film on the Living Farms approach and impact
  • Capture the overall Living Farms approach, strategies, key activities and impact
  • Living Farms work on agro-ecological farming and other components of food sovereignty
  • Living Farms work on the seed sovereignty
Scope of Work:
The selected agency/individual will be responsible for:
 
Pre-production
  • Understanding the context and thematic objectives of the project and Living Farms
  • Developing a detailed script and storyboard in consultation with Living Farms
  • Finalising shooting locations in discussion with the project teams.
Production / Field shooting
  • Conduct high-quality video shooting in selected field villages of Rayagada and Gajapati.
  • Capture interviews with community members, women leaders, adolescent girls, elderly persons, government officials and project staff.
Shoot relevant visuals on:
  • Agro-ecological farming practices
  • Nutrition gardens & traditional food systems
  • Forest conservation initiatives / uncultivated food
  • Access to government schemes and entitlements
  • Youth action for environmental protection
  • Record ambient sound, voiceover and on-field activities.
Post-Production
Editing, colour grading, background music, text overlays and subtitles in English.
 
Two versions of the film:
  • Full short videos (5–7 minutes)
  • Short reels
Correction and modifications based on feedback from Living Farms
 
Deliverables:
  • 5 to 7 minutes’ 1- short film on the result and change of the RICE project
  • 5 to 7 minutes’ 1 short film on the Living Farms approach and impact
  • Shorter version reels
  • 100 still photos showcasing activities, change and impact
Timeframe:
The assignment is expected to be completed within 30-40 days from the date of agreement, including pre-production, field shooting, editing, and final handover.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in documentary filmmaking, preferably in development, Food security, livelihood or Adivasi issues.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of similar work.
  • Experience working in rural field settings.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Odia.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality video production within specified timelines.
Budget:
 
Interested applicants should submit a technical and financial proposal covering:
  • Story developing, Shooting/filming, editing and post-production
  • Travel and logistics
  • GST and other statutory taxes (if applicable)
Remember this is a low budget assignment. Not for big agencies.
 
Rights over the product:
All final outputs produced during this assignment will be the property of Living Farms and cannot be used or distributed without written approval.
