Counsel to Secure Justice (CSJ) works to ensure access to justice for children on both sides of the law and strengthening child protection system through restorative justice practices. Established in April 2012 in Delhi, today, CSJ’s work spans legal and psychosocial support to child sexual abuse survivors (since 2013), mental health support, restorative and access to justice support for children in conflict with the law, and capacity building of institutional and grassroots child protection stakeholders.?

Since 2019, CSJ has expanded its work in Rajasthan to support children living in Child Care Institutions across multiple districts.

Since 2024, CSJ is implementing Project Nyaayaarth at the Government Observation and Children’s Home for Boys, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The project focuses on providing legal, psychosocial, and reintegration support to children in conflict with law through a restorative and child-centred approach.

Social Worker
Location: Jaipur, Rajasthan
Duration: 12 Months

Salary: Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with competitive industry standards and relevant work experience.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:-

Social worker will be responsible for providing holistic case management, and psychosocial support to the children in conflict with law, boys residing in Government observation and children Home with the focus on safety, rehabilitation, development and reintegration. The role includes conducting case assessment, legal aid support, home visits, linkages with education and social security schemes etc and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

The social worker will work closely with Families, child-care institution, Juvenile justice board, District child protection Unit and other government departments to ensure the potential linkage and rapport building.

1.Child Identification and Case Management

Establish regular interaction with children, institutional staff, and JJBs to identify children requiring legal, psychosocial, educational, health, rehabilitation or family support.

Conduct an initial case assessment by reviewing available case information and understanding the child’s needs, family situation, education, legal status and immediate concerns.

Maintain regular follow-up with children and stakeholders to address pending needs and ensure continuity of support.

2.Legal Support and Coordination

Facilitate access to legal aid for children in coordination with CSJ advocates, panel advocates, and Niramitra (DLSA advocates).

Coordinate with the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Legal Services Authority, probation officers, and other stakeholders for timely legal interventions.

Track legal case progress and ensure children receive appropriate legal information and support throughout judicial proceedings.

Assist in the preparation and follow-up of legal documents and referrals, as required.

3.Psychosocial Support

Identify children requiring psychological and emotional support and facilitate timely referrals to counsellors or mental health professionals or as per case requirement.

Map and establish linkages with relevant services for education, healthcare, vocational training, de-addiction and other rehabilitation needs.

Coordinate referrals by connecting the child/family with the service provider, facilitating required documentation or appointments, and following up on whether the service was actually accessed.

4.Family Engagement, Reintegration and Restorative Support

Identify children who are suitable for family reintegration through comprehensive assessment and in accordance with individual care and rehabilitation plans.

Conduct family interactions/home visits where required and coordinate with the child, family, JJB/CWC/DCPU/CCI and other stakeholders to assess readiness, risks and support requirements.

Conduct pre-reintegration assessments, including home visits where required, to evaluate family readiness and the child's best interests.

Identify suitable cases for Restorative and Reintegration Circles, coordinate preparation meetings with children and families, work with the Counsellor on psychosocial readiness, facilitate the circle process and monitor agreed follow-up actions.

Ensure timely documentation of reintegration plans, risk assessments, follow-up reports, and case records in accordance with programme and statutory requirements.

5.Child Development and Rehabilitation Activities

Plan and facilitate awareness sessions, life skills programmes, recreational activities, and group interventions for children and young adults.

Promote children's participation in activities that enhance emotional well-being, confidence, resilience, and social skills.

Support initiatives aimed at rehabilitation, restoration, education, and reintegration.

6.Stakeholder Coordination

Liaise and Strengthen collaboration with the Child Care Institution staff, JJB, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Legal Services Authority, and other government departments to facilitate child-centric interventions.

7. Program documentation, team coordination and reporting

Ensure timely updating of the children's dashboard and project management information systems.

Update programme dashboards and trackers for legal support, psychosocial referrals, service linkages, reintegration and case status, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.

Prepare periodic case updates, monthly and quarterly reports, case studies, success stories, meeting minutes and action trackers as required.

Maintain confidentiality and ensure secure handling of children's records and sensitive information.

Any other work assigned by the supervisor.

Note: The role involves sustained interaction with children in conflict with law, their families, juvenile justice system stakeholders which may involve exposure to emotional distress, complex and emotionally challenging situations. Although CSJ is committed to staff care and self-care policy and encourage staff to use the appropriate mechanism to take care of themselves while maintaining professional boundaries.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)/Sociology, or a related field.

Minimum 2 year of experience working in child protection system.

Strong documentation and coordination skills.

Understanding of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and POCSO Act will be an advantage.

Understanding of the Microsoft Office and similar software for data base management.

Proficiency in oral and written Hindi.

Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability of firmly advocating for the best interest, dignity and safety of the child

Willingness to learn, reflect, and continuously develop professional knowledge and skills.

Ability to manage multiple cases and responsibilities, maintain timelines, and deliver quality work on time.

Willingness to travel for field visits (as per requirement), institutional visits, court/JJB-related work, police stations, stakeholder meetings, and follow-up with children and families as required.

Strong understanding of child rights, child protection, rehabilitation, reintegration, and restorative approaches.
