About the study

We are hiring field research interns/ investigators for an exciting research project taking place in Delhi over April and May, 2026. The study is led by senior economists from Ashoka University, Imperial College London, and Harvard Business School. It focuses on understanding the behavior and operations of small to medium-sized shops across various markets in Delhi and will involve intensive fieldwork and data collection. After a successful baseline and midline, we are looking for suitable candidates who can support the data collection for the endline survey.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of cutting-edge economic research and gain first-hand experience in implementing a large-scale study in real-world settings.

About the role:

We are looking for driven interns who are eager to contribute to economic research and are comfortable with extensive field work. The interns will be required to lead the data collection team and manage daily field operations.

You will work closely with senior researchers and will be responsible for ensuring that data collection protocols are strictly followed. This position is ideal for individuals looking to gain exposure to applied research and field-based study implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support
Facilitate primary data collection in various markets across Delhi
Lead field teams and coordinate daily survey operations, along with maintaining a field log for documentation
Ensure adherence to data collection protocols and quality checks
Liaise with shopkeepers and other stakeholders to ensure smooth fieldwork
Monitor progress and flag operational challenges to research managers
Assist in managing survey logistics and field schedules, including MIS maintenance and data management

Background & Qualifications Education:
Current undergraduate students or recent graduates in Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or related fields are encouraged to apply
Candidates from various fields looking for exposure to field work and field - based study implementation

Required Skills:
Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential
Strong interpersonal and team-management skills
Willingness to work in diverse field settings across Delhi
Demonstrated interest in economic or social science research
Desire to take initiative and lead teams on the ground
Hindi proficiency is a plus, but not mandatory

Duration & Travel:
The internship will take place over the months of April and May. The training will begin from last week of March
Fieldwork will occur across various market locations in Delhi
Interns should be willing and available to travel within Delhi daily
