I. Introduction
Collectives for Integrated Livelihood Initiatives (CInI) is a resource organization committed to improving the overall quality of life in rural and tribal regions across the Central India belt, spanning the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Established in 2007 as an associate organization of Tata Trusts, CInI has pioneered several scalable and impactful programs across key thematic areas—Livelihoods, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH), Education, Sports, and Primary Health Systems Strengthening. All our initiatives are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and have received recognition on national and international platforms.
At the heart of CInI’s approach are community-led institutions, women’s collectives, and frontline workers. Collaborating with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and State Governments, we strategically leverage markets, technology, and robust processes to drive large-scale effectiveness and sustainability of our interventions. CInI thrives on the strength of over 300 development professionals working across our intervention geographies, efficiently supporting diverse functions such as program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, and administration.
II. Job Purpose :
The programme aims to improve safe, dignified, and sustainable bathing spaces in rural areas through the construction and monitoring of household and community-level toilet and bathroom units. The Block Coordinator (Civil Works) will undertake extensive field visits and provide technical oversight to ensure quality construction, community acceptance, and long-term usability of bathing space infrastructure ensuring adherence to design standards, safety, functionality, and community needs within project timelines.
III. Key Accountabilities :
• Technical planning, preparation of layouts with drawings, and finalization of designs for bathroom units/toilets considering aspects of gender-sensitivity, user-friendly
• Conduct regular site visits to track progress, workmanship, and material quality. Monitoring the execution of civil works ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with approved designs.
• Provide on-site technical guidance to masons, local contractors, and implementation partners.
• Support pre-implementation village-level activities, including concept seeding and awareness sessions related to safe bathing, sanitation, and hygiene.
• Coordination with relevant block/district level officials to maintain convergence with relevant sanitation-related government schemes, wherever required.
• Monitor and document construction progress using appropriate tools and checklists, maintaining progressive photographs, site records, and technical documentation for monthly and periodic reporting.
• Facilitate orientation and basic training of masons, community volunteers, and local stakeholders on quality construction practices for toilet and bathroom units.
IV. Eligibility and requirements :
A. Education: Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in civil
B. Experience: 2-3 years experience in execution of WaSH interventions/ rural Civil works
C. Skills, Competencies and Experience:
• Strong understanding of rural sanitation, bathing space design and water conservation & management Community engagement, communication, coordination and training skills
• Field-level monitoring and vendor management skills in civil works
• Ability to use relevant computer applications for record keeping, designing and reporting
• Organizational skills for working independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in Hindi, Chhattisgarhi and local dialect is preferred
