About the Project:
The Union is rolling out population wide TB Screening in the urban geography of Delhi using handheld X-ray machines and newer tools, thereby ensuring that TB cases are identified and treated as soon as possible and preventing the spread of the disease to other individuals.
The project activity will employ highly sensitive screening tests such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled ultra-portable handheld X-rays.
Please note that this position is contingent upon The Union securing an anticipated grant.
3. SCOPE OF WORK
The Consultant, Lab Technician will be responsible for performing rapid molecular diagnostic tests, such as Nucleic Acid Amplification test (NAAT), on patient specimens and ensuring timely and accurate reporting. The key responsibilities include implementing and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), supporting laboratory operations, managing data collection, and collaborating with the technical team.
• Acquiring expertise in approved newer diagnostics tests related to TB including NAAT and rapid molecular diagnostic test for TB and performing rapid molecular diagnostic test and NAAT test on patient specimens in a timely manner.
• Implementing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for TB laboratories, including SOPs for all laboratory tests, specifications for equipment, infection control, etc, to ensure Good Laboratory Practices (GLP);
• Providing support for all laboratory operations including regular MIS functioning, maintenance of all lab equipment, logistics of various lab consumables, specimen collection and transport etc.
• Managing clinical and laboratory aspects of the lab and ensuring collection, recording and reporting of clean, quality data;
• Providing support to field teams to ensure quality of sputum collected is to the standards required for testing purposes; on the job training to newly joined JFOs and radiographers on how to collect sputum samples and labelling/transporting the same to the testing facility
• Provide monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual progress briefings and reports on TB laboratory to the project team.
• Liaising and facilitating the technical team on all technical matters relating to laboratory functioning.
• Conducting day to day lab activities connected with the newer TB diagnostics, ensuring quality control
• Urgently reporting all adverse events in laboratory functioning to the project team.
• Any other work assigned by the Supervisor/ Project Lead/ Project Team/Head of Office.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications and Experience:
• Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or equivalent/ relevant qualification;
• Minimum of one year of work experience in TB Culture and DST or Rapid TB Diagnostics;
• The applicant must possess hands-on experience in conducting molecular diagnostic tests for tuberculosis (TB);
• Experience of working with National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) will be an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
• Good understanding of TB diagnostic tests and ability to perform them independently;
• Strong focus on accuracy and strictly compliance with prescribed laboratory guidelines and procedures;
• Able to manage data effectively and submit timely and clear reports to supervisors.
