About Calcutta Foundation
Calcutta Foundation, through its flagship program Apni Kutir, aims to support women at every stage of their journey towards financial independence through three core verticals: skilling & literacy, individual development, and community building. With 24 centres currently operating across West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, the Foundation provides skill development training such as tailoring, beauty and wellness, digital literacy, and life skills to young girls and women. Our holistic, 360-degree approach ensures women receive not just skills but also guidance, confidence, and emotional support to build sustainable livelihoods.

Female Local Candidates
In alignment with our commitment to providing a secure and supportive environment for women, this position is open to local female candidates only. Our goal is to maintain an all-female team to best serve the needs of the Apni Kutir community.

Role Overview
The Tailoring & Stitching Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality, practical skills training in tailoring and garment construction to women and girls enrolled at the Apni Kutir centre. The Trainer not only imparts technical competency but also works to build learner confidence and a sense of enterprise -- helping women see tailoring as a sustainable and dignified source of income. The training is designed to be locally relevant, market-aligned, and immediately usable for both employment and self-employment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Plan and deliver daily tailoring and stitching training sessions covering hand stitching, machine operation, measurement-taking, pattern drafting, garment cutting, and finishing techniques.

2. Design and adapt curriculum to match learner levels -- from absolute beginners to those seeking advanced skills -- with a focus on locally relevant garments and market demand.
3. Ensure students develop practical, production-ready skills that can translate directly into earning opportunities.
4. Maintain the training space, machines, and tools in good condition and report equipment needs promptly.
5. Track individual student progress and maintain attendance and assessment records.
Coordinate with the Centre Coordinator and Placement Officer to align training content with local employer requirements and market trends.
6. Participate in student demonstrations, exhibitions, and community events organized by the centre.
7. Provide supportive mentorship to learners, encouraging them to build a professional approach to their work.

Key Requirements
1. Demonstrated expertise in tailoring, stitching, and garment construction -- including knowledge of sewing machines, pattern making, and finishing.
2. Fluency in Marathi is essential; working knowledge of Hindi is required.
Ability to teach practical skills to absolute beginners with patience and encouragement.
3. Experience in tailoring for local garments (blouses, salwar suits, petticoats, etc.) as well as contemporary styles preferred.
4. Basic record-keeping skills.

Qualifications
1. Minimum: Completion of a recognized tailoring or fashion design course (NSDC, ITI, Craft Board, or equivalent); a formal certificate is preferred.
2. 2+ years of professional tailoring experience, either in training or production.
3. Prior teaching or training experience is preferred but not mandatory.
