Job Title: School Transformation Lead – Government Schools (Rural Karnataka)

Location: Karnataka (Field-based with frequent travel across rural blocks)

Experience: 6–8 years in school transformation and education systems strengthening

Role Summary:

We are looking for a systems-focused and hands-on School Transformation Lead to drive measurable improvement in rural government schools across Karnataka. The role involves leading school transformation initiatives, strengthening teacher capacity, managing teaching fellows and master trainers, and building strong partnerships with government stakeholders to align interventions with state and district priorities.

The ideal candidate should have deep experience working with government schools, strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to implement scalable and sustainable education programs in rural communities.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Lead School Transformation:
• Design, implement, and monitor comprehensive school transformation plans for clusters of rural government schools.
• Conduct baseline assessments on student learning levels, classroom practices, infrastructure, and community engagement.
• Develop and execute strategies to improve foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes.
• Co-design and implement BALA (Building as Learning Aid) initiatives to create engaging learning environments.
• Support schools in developing inclusive, child-friendly, and activity-based learning spaces.

2. Manage Teaching Fellowship Program:
• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and support teaching fellows and master trainers deployed in government schools.
• Provide ongoing pedagogical coaching and professional guidance to fellows.
• Ensure fellows effectively collaborate with government teachers for co-teaching, remedial learning, and classroom support.
• Track fellow performance and ensure alignment with program objectives and community needs.

3. Strengthen Teacher Capacity:
• Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
• Organize teacher training workshops, peer-learning sessions, and capacity-building programs.
• Introduce active learning methodologies, Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs), and formative assessment practices.
• Support teachers in improving classroom management and student engagement strategies.

4. Government Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement:
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with Block Education Officers (BEOs), District Education Officers (DEOs), Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs), and State Education Department officials.
• Conduct regular consultations with government stakeholders to align school transformation plans with government priorities, policies, and budgets.
• Represent the organization in district and state-level education forums and meetings.
• Advocate for the adoption and institutionalization of successful education practices within the government system.

5. Community Mobilization:
• Engage School Management Committees (SMCs), parents, local leaders, and community stakeholders to improve school participation and ownership.
• Facilitate campaigns related to foundational learning, girls’ education, school enrollment, retention, and inclusive education.
• Strengthen community-school relationships to improve student attendance and learning outcomes.

6. Data Monitoring & Reporting:
• Establish simple assessment and tracking systems to monitor student learning outcomes, teacher performance, and program milestones.
• Analyze program data and generate actionable insights for continuous improvement.
• Prepare periodic reports, presentations, and documentation for internal teams, donors, and government stakeholders.
• Ensure timely and accurate program reporting and compliance.

7. Team & Resource Management:
• Supervise field facilitators, teaching fellows, master trainers, and volunteers.
• Manage field schedules, travel plans, budgets, and operational logistics efficiently.
• Ensure effective coordination among field teams and stakeholders.

8. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
• Capture best practices, case studies, impact stories, and field learnings.
• Contribute to the development of training materials, learning resources, and policy briefs.
• Support program scaling through documentation and dissemination of successful models.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• 6–8 years of experience in school transformation, education programs, or education system strengthening.
• Prior experience working with government schools is mandatory; Karnataka experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in teacher training, mentoring, or educator development programs.
• Strong understanding of rural education ecosystems and community engagement.
• Experience in managing partnerships with government stakeholders.
• Experience managing fellowship programs or teacher cohorts is an added advantage.
• Master’s degree preferred in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Fluency in Kannada and English is essential.

Compensation:

This is a Manager-level role. Compensation will be in the range of 60,000 per month, based on experience and qualifications.
