About the project:
Preventing risk behaviour among adolescents is one of the initiatives of Butterflies to minimize/eradicate delinquency in selected pockets of the Delhi through a preventive, child-centered, participatory and community-based, non-institutional approach. Through this project, the organization aim to identify children are risk and support them to retain in formal education system, prevent dropout before completing senior secondary level and successfully transiting to higher education or vocational courses as pathways to prevent delinquency.
Position Summary
Program officer (education) will be responsible for implementing Butterflies education program at a contact point/center. This role will include mainstreaming out of school children, engaging children in teaching learning activities to improve retention and prevent further dropout from school, conduct recreational activities like sports, cultural, sessions on life skills etc, for the holistic development of children, and linking children with vocational courses. Moreover, this role will also include making a liaison with different stakeholders like school, DCPU, SJPU and local government in order to seek necessary support from them when requires.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct daily outreach, identify children at risk in the neighbourhood, enrol them in program and fill their profile on prescribed format.
- Enrol out of school children in formal education system/NIOS.
- Do strategic annual planning and split out it into half yearly, quarterly and monthly.
- Conduct daily teaching learning activities using the cooperative learning, multi-level and multi-grade approach.
- Track daily attendance and take effective measures to make children regular at contact point/centre.
- Fill progress card on regular basis to monitor academic progress of each child.
- Ensure that each child participate in periodic assessments.
- Help the children to identify their potentials and area of interest and help the case worker in designing sessions for career guidance for them.
- Build a rapport and make a liaison with families, communities, schools, police station, DCPU and representatives of local government etc.
- Conduct weekly sports activities, life skills education session and etc.
- Conduct quarterly exposure visits for children to different educational and vocational institutes, historical monuments, etc.
- Conduct sessions with parents on distinguished topics in order to create awareness among them and to enhance their knowledge on different themes such as government schemes, child protection, parenting, etc.
- Conduct exposure visits for parents to universities and different vocational institutes.
- Encourage and support parents to be SMC members and give them training to enhance their capabilities to carry out the role.
- Prepare periodic reports, progress updates and documentation required by the project.
- Other task as assigned by supervisor/head of programs.
Specific knowledge, skills and experience required:
- A postgraduate in education, B.Ed., Dl. Ed.
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in teaching preferably in development/non-profit sector.
- Ready to learn new teaching learning methodologies.
- Abilities to work with children from most marginalized communities.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Candidate who may teach math and science till class 10 will be preferred.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with qualification, experience and organizational norms.
Nature of contract:
Initially, there is a six-month provision period and afterward, one year contract will be given which will be renewed every year based on performance appraisal and availability of funds.
