Wetlands International South Asia office seeks applications for the position of Junior Technical Officer - Himalayas.This is a full-time position based in Leh, Ladakh.
Job Purpose
The incumbent for this full-time position for a duration of two years will be based mainly in Ladakh for the implementation of various projects. The incumbent shall focus on assisting the field implementation of the Himalayan programme related activities, and support realization of South Asia regional strategy. Key responsibilities include conducting field surveys, data collection and management, liaising with stakeholders and conducting capacity development programmes within South Asia.
Roles and responsibilities
- Act as a technical focal point for implementation of various projects in UT Ladakh
- Coordinate and liaise with Government of UT Ladakh and other stakeholders for planning and implementation of projects in Ladakh, and other landscapes, as required by the organisation
- Undertake field mission to assess wetland ecological character and develop technical reports, scientific papers and policy briefs for wetlands conservation and management.
- Establish local implementation unit (hiring of local project fellows, establishment of an office space with necessary logistics, etc.) on need basis
- Support communication and outreach on issues related to wetlands conservation and wise use in South Asia region
- Provide technical support to the Government of UT Ladakh in the implementation of the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems
- Self-driven and able to work independently when necessary
- Represent the organization at various meetings and fora
- Any other as may be assigned by the Director, Wetlands International South Asia
Essential Qualifications
- Masters in Wildlife Sciences or Forestry or Environmental Science or Management
- Understanding of wetland ecology and management needs
- At least two years of relevant experience in wildlife conservation
- Proven technical writing skills in English, Hindi or other Vernacular languages
Skills needed
Wetland assessment including hydrological, ecological and socio economic surveys; RS GIS; data analysis on MS excel, and literature review for preparation of technical reports
Desirable qualifications
- Experience of working on high altitude protected area landscapes
- Experience of working with government departments and scientific organisations
- Experience of project management and independent field work
- 1-2 years of work experience in a similar landscape
Remuneration
The incumbent will be placed in Grade 3 of salary scale, with an annual gross remuneration of Rs. 7 lakhs with all perks.
